I told Mom there would be a significant depletion of our stores of jars as folks buy honey, apple butter, hot pepper butter, jars of mountain air >snicker< and who knows what else! She finally saw the light and we are currently eliminating and organizing to allow for more storage of jars.

I met a lady in town this summer who also wanted to give me all her canning jars. I think she still has them in storage.....

If I had to estimate how many jars I currently have I would have to name in the 300 range...... :p Add Mom's to it and we will have quite a few jars.

Get this, you guys.....my mother was contemplating leaving most of her canning jars with the house she is selling because I have so many! :ep

Anyone need some canning jars? :hu I told her that I knew plenty of folks who would come and get them if she didn't want them!

She probably has a couple hundred jars...or more...I don't know.

You can never have to many canning jars!!!!
Glass jars are easy enough to even store outside, since they don't get ruined by the sun, as long as they don't get water in them and freeze. They are easy enought to clean, when you are ready to use them. Although I usually end up storing most of mine in a big pile of boxes in the kitchen

She actually lives in WV, Aly, but I'm sure she would gladly give you her jars. They are very clean and stored neatly in boxes. She was going to put them under the house and just leave them!

She lives 20 miles outside of Parkersburg, WV. If you are serious, she will be there all month and maybe a little of October, as well. I told her I would rather give them to someone who will use them rather than leave them there for someone to put in the trash.

Wow Bee...I cant imagine, as hard as it is for ME to come by jars....that your mom would leave them there! I was runing through the house, garage, barn, shop, looking for a few pint jars the other day...so I could cann the potatos I had. Now, I need to get about 4 or 5 more cases, for the beets and peas that will HOPEFULLY come in later this fall. I have been scrambling around...looking, hunting, searching....jars are hard to come by right now...around here. I have a few Quart jars left, for processing meats into...im on the prowel!

Bee you got to get those jars. If anything resell the ones you don't need. Or share them with friends. :D That's a ton.

Justusnak  Sorry to laugh but that sounds like something I would do . Just yesterday I walked in off the porch and notice my girls had used a pint jar to hold flowers from the garden. I had to resist the urge of snatching it up and returning it to my jar storage.

I think any deal on jars above purchasing new is a good deal.

No, if I am not mistaken that is in reference to the modern seals VS the use of wax to seal the jars like in the old days.

All canning must either be boiled or pressure canned in order to kill harmful bacteria before storing.

I will try and track down a couple links with some basic info for you. Great job with the jars!!!

A lot of people on this forum like to use the Ball Canning Book, I don't have one but I hear it's great.
