Pugs are highly allergic to corn & wheat, chicken & beef are not too well tolerated (or at least mine were)
I had to feed mine a lamb and rice mix only, until they cleared up and then after a year I slowly reintroduced chicken & beef in small amounts and they tolerated them pretty well when only given a small amount. But mostly a lamb and rice diet with fresh raw and scrambled eggs.
"Blanket" statements cannot be made about any breed, especially about diet. Some dogs do beautifully on crappy food. Some dogs do poorly on raw. I "have" littermates (I owned one and gave him away, I have the other) - 4 yr old purebred labs. 1 has to be on super calorie dense, high fat kibble. The other does well on regular stuff. Neither can be fed raw - they are Service Dog and it's a public health risk for them to be on raw.
Our pug eats everything and anything, including chicken poo. :D

Our pug is at a good weight for her at about 18 pounds. She is female and black colored. The girls run a little lighter weight than the males and blacks tend to be smaller than fawns. I have seen 30 pound fawns, but at that weight, they were super fat and appeared to have trouble walking. I try to keep our dogs at a good weight and gauge that by how they look and feel (stocky-wise). Eye problems are very common in the bulgy eye breeds and I have had some luck with putting cod liver oil drops into the eyes, but that stinks like the devil. You could try vit. E drops, too.
As to diet, I have been feeding homemade for many years. I use Pitcairn's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats book for my recipes. The easiest recipe I have stuck with is a cooked oat/meat/veg with added powder containing brewers yeast, lethicin, kelp and vitamin c and e. Since you already feed homemade, you probably cook in mass quantities like I do.

We were given a 3 year old Frenchie last year and the difference in her coat and health is amazing after 9 months. She had been on a kibble for sensitive stomach made from salmon. Yech, just the smell of that junk...long post, I know, but this works for me. Good luck and how nice of you to take in this dog.

Oh yes. Ours ate from the cat litter box :sick so we had to put up a gate into the room so he couldn't go in their & snack. He also ate stuffing from dog toys, requiring emergency surgery & an overnight stay at the emergency vet ($$$) because his instestines got blocked. He ate like he was starving & never got over 18 lbs.

My internet is being very slow tongiht, so I just have two pics right now, these are to kind show what her eyes are like, (and to show how cute she is regardless). Hopefully tomorrow the net willbe quicker.

No repsonse to her herlfound ads, but hubby said she could stay if no one claims her (which doesnt look too promising :/) Her personality is just amazing!!!!

Here's Daisy

I had a Basset Hound who had "dry eye" - he would get thick green goo coating his eyes - the vet prescribed very expensive drops for him. After I used the Rx drops up, I tried my purified water eye wash that I use since I wear contact lenses. It worked great - same results as the Rx drops (and a lot less expensive!!!!). Whenever he would have a flare up, I'd wash his eyes out a couple of times and he'd be good to go.

Daisy is adorable!

Well, no one has claimed her yet. We are def. keeping her. I love her already, and she has become my little shadow. At first it was hard to look at her eyes, but now I see way beyond her eyes, she has a wonderful soul. Shame on those ppl who dumped her.
