Who would've thunk you could make soap with Crisco?
Crisco was invented (hydrogenated oils) to make soap harder with cheaper oils. It was never meant to be a food.....but is ideal for soapmaking!

Great job on the lye soap! Didn't we tell you it was easy? Told ya so! Watch out, it is addictive!

I don't think my soap worked out. :( I posted a pic on the other thread.

I'm not going to let it discourage me, though. I just did a small 1 lb. batch of Raspberry Oatmeal Goat Milk Soap. It smells wonderful so I hope it works out.

Last night, the track where DS races posted a pic of the flooding from the heavy rains they got. Most of the track is under about 8ft of water. The only thing you can see is the top 2 ft. of the bleacher's cover. As much as they can tell they have lost 1 set of bleachers, the port a pottys, the stage, trash cans, the doghouse (small building between start gates) and some electrical equipment. They said they will be ready for racing 10/3, but I don't think so. There is already a flash flood watch out for this area through tomorrow.

Worse, alot of people lost their homes and some businesses are ruined. Even a couple of motels who had evacuees already there had to be evacuated along with a nursing home. A K-6th grade school was completely destroyed. Flood water came to within 2 ft of the roof. The losses in N. GA are estimated at $250 million.

After seeing and hearing all of that, I have nothing to complain about.

What a tragedy!

Here in Missouri flash flooding can be a big problem as well. Every few years we have flooding that even results in loss of life. Living in a place with lots of creeks is nice but can have it's drawbacks for sure.

FF, I think there were 9 or 10 people who lost their lives in the flooding. One was a 14 year old boy who thought he was trying to rescue someone. He saw someone in a jeep in a very flooded cornfield. He dove in before his grandmother could stop him. His friend made it back safely, but he was caught up in the current. Turns out, it was just a stalk of corn moving in the current. Very sad.

Again today, our area is expecting 1-5 inches of rain. The N. GA area will get more than their share, too. DS won't be racing anytime soon, but that will give DH & him time to fix what was broken last race. Thank goodness the season is almost over.

On a brighter note, my 2nd batch of soap worked. I have real Raspberry Oatmeal Goat Milk Soap. :weee

Oh, and the paper mill that DH contracts for going to have railcars full of pine chips needing to be unloaded. We don't know for how many weeks yet, but that will give us extra work (and income) while it lasts.

Since today is going to be such a dreary day, I think we'll have Spicy Potato Soup and watch the TN Vols football game.

I brought some bananas in last week, so now I am in the midst of a great battle with those nasty little creatures. :he

Seems like the more I happen to kill, more show up. :somad

Any suggestions for getting rid of them once and for all?

I have never had a major problem. Usually when I get rid of what invited them to begin with they just disappear. Except once when I thought I had gotten rid of the problem but they kept on and on and on. After a couple of days I threw out some wilted flowers that I had picked and brought inside, placed in a vase. Yep, it was the water in the vase. Once that was gone so were they.
