Good morning, ya'll!

Yesterday was such a great day!!! Becky and our friend Resham with her husband all came to my house and helped me frame in the new breeder pens. Still need a few more things to finish the pen, but the exterior posts are in and the framework done for wire.

Resham and her husband also brought their lawn tractor, so while we ladies were planting posts and hammering nails, Resham's husband mowed the entire yard!!!!!!!! :celebrate In the time he finished my entire yard with the rider, I would have only had the front yard done with the push mower. We decided he deserves a pie, so I'll be baking sometime this week.

After we had the breeder pens framed in, Resham and her husband had to get home. Becky and I decided to head into town. She had to pick up her car, and I wanted to do some shopping. I picked up a few groceries, we stopped at Jo Ann's so I could get some fabric stiffener (not start, Stiffen Quick. I will show ya'll for what once I have some made, as long as you promise NOT to laugh, because it's very prissy, not SS or really a necessity) and I picked up some cute heart buttons that were on clearance and a small spool of ribbon.

Then we stopped at the Pets Place, a local pet store. I bought a puppy collar, a puppy toy, and a small bag of a natural puppy food to see if my puppy does better on it. I figured it won't hurt my yorkie, either. I know Grain Free pet foods are more expensive, but my yorkie has some serious skin irritations and hot spots, and I was told that a grain free dog food would be better for her. She's only 5 pounds, and normally an 8 lb bag of dog food lasts her a month, and that's the cheap stuff. I'm hoping the better the bag of food will last her longer. We'll see. Hmm...that gives me an idea for another post....lol

While we were out, Becky spoke with a friend of hers about all of us camping out in their yard for fireworks. Her friend was fine with it. When we got back to my house we fixed a quick dinner of tacos, packed up snacks for the fireworks, and headed out to the lake to camp out on her friend's yard. We even took my 3 yo great niece with us.

While the fireworks were pretty, and everyone was having a lot of fun, I have to be honest, my great niece is the one who held me captivated all night. NOT only did she carry on a full conversation with me last night, not only was she laughing and giggling, and not only did she crawl up in my lap to feel "safe" when the fireworks boomed (not that they were loud, as we were across the lake from them on a hill), but all evening she called me "Mama"! :ep

I told Ernie about it at the end of the fireworks. I figured he'd be shocked, but instead, he informed me that the entire time Becky and I were in town, our niece had been calling him "Daddy" all day!! :th

I won't lie, I think it's nice that she feels that comfortable with us, but it worries me, too. We are not her parents, and we've always referred to ourselves as Aunt Aly and Uncle Ernie to her. She does NOT talk to our nephew much at all, or call him Daddy, and he isher dad! I am going to have to talk to my nephew about it, because I don't want him to over hear her calling us that and get upset. Nor do I want him thinking we have taught her to call us that.

Our nephew didn't go with us to the fireworks, he opted to stay home. So I had asked him to take his daughter, and he was OK with that.

This morning we have plans to go to the local Farmer's Market with Becky and Resham. Then maybe a stop at TSC.

Hope ya'll have a wonderful 4th!!!!!!!

We have a local farm that sets up every day in town so we went yesterday and Tyler had such a good time picking out veggies! He even wanted an eggplant and 2 squash for daddy! So much better than the grocery store! Ya'll have a good time.

Oh, we had a similar situation with our god daughter...she called us mommy and daddy and we had to nip that in the bud quickly....we got her to call us Miss Lori and Mr. Chad and she still calls us that 6 yrs later! That may be something you all want to do. Good luck!

Today was another fun, but exhuasting, day!

Becky, our friend Resham, Resham's DH, Ernie, and I all went to the local Farmer's Market this morning. Ernie did quite a bit of walking, so was pretty sore and tired by the time we got back home. He met up with a lady who he used to purchase fresh baked pies from years ago. So, we bought one of her rhubarb pies (really I had no choice, Ernie was drooling on her table) and a plate of her chocolate fudge (I gained 10 pounds just from eating one piece!).

We also hit a couple yard sales today. I got some old books for 50 cents each, an XBox game for Ernie for 50 cents. For $5 I got a nice book shelf AND a food dehydrated brand new and still in the box!!!!!!!!!!!! That was my best deal of the day!

Becky and I talked about raspberries today and how they are ready to be picked, or well really, almost done here. We grilled out steaks and hamburgs, and then Becky headed home (after adopting one of Zoe's puppies!) and the kids and I went berry picking.

Once we had all the ripe berries we could find picked, I loaded up and headed over to Becky's with the raspberries. Becky and her mom talked me through making fresh black raspberry jam!!!!!! I ended up with 8 jars!! I gave one to Becky and her mom (offered them 2, but they said that was more than they needed) and came home with 7.

Becky's mom is super nice! She said if there is anything else I want to learn how to put up, that I'm welcome to come over and they'll help me learn!! And the way they teach, basically I did most of it. So I had hands on training!!!!!!! :)

Becky did experiment with some of the seeds and pulp left over from the raspberries in the colander. She rinsed hot water over it, put it in a pan, added a pit of sugar, cooked it a bit, and then mixed it with some 7-Up, added ice, and viola! Raspberry 7-Up! It was quite tasty!

It was a grand day, but now I'm exhuasted and I want to head to my bed!

Becky definitely has to post how to make raspberry 7-up!

Looks like you got a lot picked today! My mom and I just did our runs and picked a couple, we've got a couple more days and then we'll have tons! I cannot wait!

Have a nice night Aly.

What another terrific day you had! Congratulations on making jam! I think there are already a bunch of jam recipes posted here on ss for future reference. ;) There is nothing in the world like homemade jam from your own picking. :drool
