Fat chance! Ernie was with me today at the swap! He didn't say no to one darn thing!

I got stuck with those stupid runner ducks! :barnie I offered them to my friend, waiting to see what she decides, and then as a last resort, will be putting them up on BYC.

No, I'm NOT telling what I came home with today.....ok well maybe I will....but :barnie

I've a serious problem!

Why do these stupid chickens have to be so pretty?! and today, CHEAP!?

:barnie

I'm not downsizing....I'm not even trading....I just upgraded :barnie :barnie

TeddyRoosevelt, would that be Mr. Titan I see as your avatar?? are you the other half of our keljonma? ;)

If ya'll ask nicely, I might tell you what I got today (and believe me it's good!) and tomorrow, I might produce pictures!

I don't have pictures, but I'll work on getting pics tomorrow. :)

I took my pekin duck that I bought at Roger's Auction last night with me because I was supposed to be delivering him to a guy who was going to pay me what I paid for the duck. We found his spot and he had two Buff Brahma Bantam Roos and 3 Buff Brahma Bantam hens. I was checking out one of the hens and asked him how much? He said $5. Then he looked over my pekin duck and said, "I'll trade you even up, duck for hen." :ep I made a profit taking that hen! :gig

We had fun walking around. Saw wood duck pairs for $40 a pair, and was very tempted, but we're not really set up for them yet so we decided to wait on getting them, but Ernie really enjoyed seeing them in person.

Last booth we stopped at for the day had several cages of bantams. One cage was a trio of Mille Fleur d'Uccles. Two cages of Blue and Black d'Uccles. :hide

I bought one entire pen of the Blue and Black d'Uccles.....plus a pair....I didn't pay what they were asking for them, though. I wheeled and dealed with them and got breed/possibly show quality d'Uccles for half their asking price, and paid less per bird than what I would have paid for day old chicks from a hatchery.

They are all roughly 8 months old. One of the hens are laying. Very nice young pairs.

I walked away with:
1 pair of Black d'Uccles
2 Pairs of Blue d'Uccles
1 Pair of Blue Mottled d'Uccles (and this pair is my favorite!)

I didn't find any Wheaten Ameraucana Bantams, so I might sell my Wheaten Ameraucan roo. Or try to find a couple girls at next years swap. I'm not sure.

Oh, and the guy I bought the d'Uccles from actually threw in one of the blue Roos for free, as I was only buying 7 birds, and then he gave me a Pastel Call drake FREE! I already have a Pastel call drake, so I'll probably sell him, too, as he's absolutely gorgeous and a good example of the breed.

Oh, and Ernie didn't care that I brought home more birds, because they were all bantams!! His words, "They're smaller, take up less space, and aren't tripping me in the backyard."

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Unfortunately our swap today was a bust. Not much there. Nothing I would even consider. Then we went to the farm day at the methodist church and went to the petting zoo area and Chad was asking if they were selling some of their birds! Threw the petting zoo people for a loop! They had a frizzled buff laced crested polish, a silver laced crested polish and a black silkie in a cage together.......oooooooo I loved those birds! We got their business card so i may just have to pay them a visit later! Then I look over and Chad has a goat in his lap with this look on his face like "can I, ma?" I had to tell him no, not until we have a fence!

It's addicting....I couldn't sleep the other night cause I kept thinking about what dimensions to build the brahma coop and how many birds I could get in the little coop and then we started to consider silkies too so I may need to do another coop. Shesh, how do you keep up with all your different breeds? :drool

It's not easy keeping up with all the different breeds. I always manage to forget about someone lol

Ernie and I were discussing just keeping enough large fowl for eggs for our family to eat and just breeding the bantam breeds. Bantams can have smaller coops/pens, take up less space, eat less.....and don't trip us if they think we have treats.

Lance the Royal Palm Tom and Saphira the Blue Slate will be sold, too. Ernie really wants Bourbon Reds, so I'm going to sell my turkeys I have here and we're getting a young trio of BR's from BeccaOh.

I'm also going to sell the trio of Fawn and white Runner ducks and my 4 pet quality call ducks.
