Well exactly. Tell him to move some bait (NOT the chickens) into the open pen, then camp out and wait for coons. He can stay all night if he wants (or if you want, lol).

Just put a bowl of cat food, or dog food out there, it will draw those masked bandits in!

Put E, his gun, and the dog food bait in the dog kennel coop. Bring the chickens into the house. :)
Now THAT would have been a plan!

We compromised. I kept my best girls in the big coop, and we put 3 lower on the totem pole (i.e. we were thinking of selling) in the dog kennel coop. No losses to report today.

And

We went almost a week without a coon attack - weren't sure why - but after looking over the coon yesterday - SHE has a litter somewhere - a NURSING litter. So that dumb coon risked her life (and lost) and there's some hungry kits somewhere. We think that's why we didn't have a coon issue for awhile - she was off giving birth.

A part of me doesn't care, because she killed Jett and those little brats of hers mean more predators.
The other part of me, the mommy me, thinks those poor babies are going to suffer and die from hunger. :(

It's really a no win.

I'm probably the only person who would tell you bring the chickens into the house, QA..

Hopefully, you will have a respite from predators for a while.
