We do have a humane society, but when we asked about getting help to spay both cats AND our dog, they told us there are no funds available for helping individuals spay/neuter. Our county is just too poor.

Our county's humane society will not even TAKE cats because they have a barn full of like 80 cats I think? They said they can not afford to take in anymore cats - they only take dogs and horses.

Here's a story for you:

Elderly couple found 2 kittens that their neighbors left behind when they moved. Couple fed the kittens and then called our local Humane Society. The Humane Society refused to come get them. So, Elderly couple drive the two kittens to the humane society and leave them there. The Humane Officer took the kittens to the vet, had them UTD on shots, etc, billed the elderly couple for the vet bill and THEN took the couple to court for abandoning the kittens! I know this is true, because I talked to BOTH parties. We met the elderly couple back when we were still going to the spring for our water - and they told us how it was. So I asked the Humane officer about it at the time - as I was talking to her on a regular basis given we were fostering a million chihuahua's at the time for them. She said, "Dang right I charged them!" She actually had a court date for them and everything and was pressing criminal abandonment charges against this elderly couple!

I am not fostering for the Humane Society here anymore, because they kept promising to bring food for the dogs we had here, etc. and they never did. Then one of the chi's snapped at Baby Boy, and I told her they had to go. They took all but 1, and they said they had no where for the last one to go - and left it up to me to rehome her. They've never once come back and asked about that dog.

yep, I'm done with our local humane society.

I did sign up for a program called Warm and Cozy, but never heard back from them. They assist with spay/neuter, shots, and make sure any outside dogs are supplied with new dog boxes if needed, and straw for bedding. Requirements are you must have 2 dogs or more, be low income, or have multiple children (I think I qualify there lol).

We are hoping we can get at least our redbone coonhound spayed before her next heat cycle. We'll see though.

We have the same issues here. Momma cats dumped, preggo.." there is a farm, I bet they need cats" Im like, NO, WE DON"T! However, we NOW have 8 kittens, and no money to spay...I called every place I know...no extra funds out there to help...if I take them to the pound, they will be put down. "sigh" anyone want a few kittens!? LOL And, 2 momma cats!??? LOL

No thanks, I have an unwanted kitten here as well again this year. I really didn't want any more cats, but she had no where to go.

Well, these kittens will stay here if no one wants them. I'm not going to turn them out just because they weren't planned for.

They are well fed, played with - and cute at the moment.

We're up and at 'em!

Have already washed laundry, worked on the room addition, breakfast and coffee.

I'm impatiently waiting for the first additon to be DONE so we can move on into our bedroom. First addition I wouldn't even say is halfway yet. :/ It's slow going - because we have to make adjustments for the fact that those Amish boys who built it obviously don't know how to frame walls up with studs every 16 inches. Seriously. We're having to add 2x4's to make a place to screw the drywall to AND having to trim insulation to FIT inbetween the studs - when it should just go right in no problemo, right?

So, makes it a little more time consuming where if everything HAD been measured right, it would be zip zip zip.

oh well, could be worse! I mean, we could NOT have those rooms AT ALL, so we'll be happy to make due with what we've got! And praise God that we have a roof over our head, even if the studs aren't spaced right  Chilly morning and there are so many in this country this morning who don't have goofed up walls to be thankful for.

So we're really thankful this morning for our imperfect walls with a roof that doesn't leak! :)

Happy Saturday! :)

Just got back from a fun laid back "show" at the riding barn. The whole time I was there I kept thinking about getting back to the computer to check in on you!

I used to live in a house that had been built in 1932 from pieces of 4 older houses. The frame was rough-sawn redwood 2" x 4" (not modern sized 2x4's) and every blasted wall in that house was cross braced-- even the closet! I feel your pain on the insulation... The studs were 16" apart, but every piece of insulation had to be custom fitted around the cross bracing :/

It was the funkiest house... the septic tank was made out of redwood as well- and amazingly still worked fine! But there was a leak in the roof that no one had ever been able to fix in 30 years :hu
