Peddler, Our guineas free ranged. I haven't housed guineas over the winter yet, so I would go with FarmFreshs advice. ;)

My coops for my chickens aren't fancy. The first one was built from lumber we recycled from a barn FIL tore down. It's 9' wide x 12' long x 8' high. The other coop is 8x8x8 for now, but will be 8x20x8 when we get that add on done.

The 9x12x8 coop also has a small brooder built inside so I can move chicks out from the indoor brooders. Like I said, not fancy, but it works.

We expand a little bit each year and try to upgrade the coops a bit at a time. Last fall we put a new roof on the 9x12x8 coop when we built the brooder in it.

This is for your new porch.

MY Front Porch Looking In

Oh yeah
Yeah oh yeah

The only ground I ever owned was sticking to my shoes
Now I look at my front porch and this panoramic view
I can sit and watch the fields fill up
With rays of glowing sun
Or watch the moon lay on the fences
Like that's where it was hung
My blessings are in front of me
It's not about the land
I'll never beat the view
From my front porch looking in

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
And the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in, yeah

I've traveled here and everywhere
Following my job
I've seen the paintings from the air
Brushed by the hand of God
The mountains and the canyons reach from sea to shining sea
But I can't wait to get back home
To the one he made for me
It's anywhere I'll ever go and everywhere I've been
Nothing takes my breath away
Like my front porch looking in

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
Yeah the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in

I see what beautiful is about
When I'm looking in
Not when I'm looking out

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
Yeah the view I love the most

Oh, the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in
Yeah
Oh, there's a carrot top who can barely walk
(From my front porch looking in)
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong, yeah
And the most beautiful girl
(Beautiful girl
From my front porch looking in)
Holding both of them
Oh, yeah

Oh dac, dac! You made me cry!! You have no idea how special that song is to me!

My brother is an E5 in the army (about to be promoted!) and he and his wife are stationed in Germany right now with their daughters. He just finished his FOURTH tour in Iraq.

The last time he was home on leave, he walked around singing that song! When we were in the car, he had it playing on the radio. It is his favorite song! So, while you were giving me a song to celebrate my new front porch, you also reminded me of a very special brother and memories of when he was home.

Thank you, dac!

Now I just need to know who sings it so I can get the CD lololol

I could post some soldier songs but now may not be a good time.

Aly, congrats on your new porch! I love porches and I don't like the looks of a house without one...its like the smile on the face of a house. My porch is too small for my liking. If I ever built my own house, it would have a wrap around porch about 15 ft. wide! You can never have too much porch space! :love

Are you going to roof it?

Well, my chicks came from McMurray this morning. I can say this is the first time I have been disappointed in them. Not only did I not get what I ordered, but the lady at customer service was rude to me. I know they didn't substitute, because I tell them no substitutions.

She then told me it was my fault that my order was messed up because I added to my order two times, and the second time that I added to the order I had requested that they remove the blue cochins from my order. I said yes, I did that because I requested 3 black cochin pullets instead.

Two weeks ago I had called to see if I could get my order shipped sooner. The lady said no, because my Black Cochin Pullets weren't available until now.

I didn't get ANY Black Cochin Pullets! I did get 3 straight run Blue Cochins, one of which expired during shipping. I have one Black Australorp which I don't think is going to make it either, but that's to be expected with shipped chicks.

I will accept that it's my fault the order is messed up, since I added to it twice and changed it once, I can see where that would cause some confusion for them, I accept that was my fault. But she didn't have to be so RUDE to me.

I also cancelled my Turkey order I had with them. I've ordered from them for the last three years, told all my friends to order from McMurray their birds are the best. Never have they treated me rudely before today.

Guess it's a good thing I am done ordering chicks. :/

Bee, to answer your question, nope, no roof on the porch. I like them open. We are going to put on a railing though, and it will be expanded later to go the length of the trailer towards the driveway and we plan to put it in an "L" shape between the pine and dogwood tree. That will be later. Just building it small for now. Will expand it as time and money allow later.

Congrats on the new porch!

I would be frustrated about the chicks too!! I hope you can sell the RIRs at the auction!
Even if you did change your order a hundred times why did they not look at the final list?? They should have only had one list of birds and that should have be the final list everytime!

Sorry to hear about the mess with McMurray. I am surprised to hear you had a rude CSR, as like you, we've never had any problems with them before.

Don't forget to call them to tell them the number you lost and you want credit.
