We took 35 chicks to the auction this morning. I do believe I'm down to only about 20 chicks left, so I'll do a head count in a bit and decide if I'm going to keep them or run them to the auction next week.

The little black Australorp expired while we were gone.

I'm not sure what I should expect from McMurray other than a refund on the two chicks I lost. They won't ship just 3 chicks to send me what I was missing, and I really don't want to have to order 25 more chicks just to get 3 Black Cochin pullets.

DH is off picking up a free couch. We were in need of a new couch, and we were offered one like new free.

I'm cleaning brooders and nesting boxes today. Yay.

Probably just as well to get a credit from McMurray's - unless you are going to purchase a non-animal item from them - in which case you could order it and have them apply the credit to the non-animal order. At least they used to do that.

I think part of the problem now is that the hatcheries are overloaded with orders. A lot of people are running scared and ordering chickens for the first time. I have read that a number of hatcheries are out of a number of breeds until later this year and into next.

As an example, Ideal's is out of Iowa Blues, Speckled Sussex, and Buckeye Pullets and Straight Run orders until 2010.

ETA: cool beans on the couch! Did you get snow? We got 2 inches... !

OKay, I definitely want to see a picture of the desk to chicken coop conversion, that sounds soooooo cool!

Sorry about the chicks, we just haven't taken the plunge with chicks yet. We want to get some to raise for meat but we need to build another coop or tractor for them and decide where to put them too. We want to expand our chickens as well, hubby is getting addicted *muuhahahahah*! My evil plan is working!!!

The porch is looking good! I will never have another porch that is not at least 6-8 feet deep...if it is any smaller you just can't fit anything on it! We got lucky when we did our porch on the singlewide years ago...someone had a pavilion that they were getting rid of (like you see outside at some churches) and we got the roof and posts and just had to build the deck and move the roof up on top of it! It was huge and so nice....I miss that deck, we could ride our bikes on it!

Out of the 300 RIR, Barred Rocks, and EE's, I'm down to 23!!!!!! :weee :celebrate :ya 2 of those are BR, 4 EE's, and the rest are RIR. I'm planning to keep the RIR's till I see what they are, keep hens, sell off roos, and the BR and EE's will go to the auction next week. :celebrate

My outdoor brooder looks so EMPTY! :weee

It means I can move DH's Silver Duckwing Old English Games out there and not have to worry about over crowding! :celebrate

DH still isn't back yet. I thought he'd be here with the couch by now.

The baby just woke up from his nap. Soon as he's done with his dinner, I'll be back out to finish cleaning coops.

DH got back with the couch. We busted our butts re-arranging our livingroom and moved it in. It doesn't look too bad. Not something I probably would have purchased if we were buying it, but hey, it was free, so can't complain. ;)

My desk had to move since the couch had to go along the wall where my computer and desk were. Now I'm kind of in the middle of the room...just until tomorrow that is.

My little Blue Cochin Bantams (the ones I had ordered) have stolen my heart! They are such little cuties, and so fluffy!

I need to start thinking on names for my week old chicks. I have this cutie patootie Deleware hen. She's got such a bright and cheery disposition to her, I've been thinking on calling her Daisy. :) Not real original, I guess, but it seems to fit her.

Here's her pic:

Smarty pants!

Actually, our house casts shadow over that entire side of the yard all afternoon. :) No roof needed. Plus we have shade trees. :)

What a bunch of cuties you have there!

Our Delaware, Frances, was a hoot as a pullet chick! Very outgoing, and inquisitive!
