Awww. I love Newfoundlands!

That poor little thing.. Far too young to have so many worms in it. Poor lil guy.

And another pic of the little bear:

BB, I called the previous owner to inform them of the worms. They were very surprised and stated they would worm the mother and litter immediately.

I could tell he was wormy when I first picked him up...his breath was atrocious! :sick

I think there will be more and then he will feel so much better. Then...watch out! He will start growing like a weed! :D

He is adorable! Just curious, what did you worm him with? Did he puke or poop those worms? Ewww! Poor little guy!

:hide You all will stone me if I tell...... :hide

I wormed with horse wormer...Strongid Paste, Pyrantel Pamoate. Just a minute dot on the back of his tongue and he had these worms in about 1 1/2 hours later.

I deworm all nonfood animals with this about twice a year. Effective and cheap....and I tried it on myself first. I researched online and found out that this the same med they prescribe for humans, so I thought...why not?

Don't hide, I wormed my cats and all the barncats with horse paste wormer for decades! A vet told me to....use a bit the size of a pea, he said.

Probably the worm load was what was making mom dog look so puny as well. I think Dewley is a doll!

I would have used commercial wormer in this case as well.

Once he is cleaned out and doing better the more holistic stuff should KEEP him clean. When they have that many worms it is life threatening to keep them.

He just had another huge load of worms out!!! :th :ep This group looked to be the same amount of the last. How in the world can something so little have that many huge worms inside? How could the intestines even work with that twisted, hardened mass of worms lying along the length of it?

All I can say is that I have gained new respect for my $8 tube of dewormer!

Just for the record...nothing like that came out of me when I used this paste! :p

That pup has shown almost immediate change in how quickly he reacts and in how much energy he has....but he tires out just as quickly. Wait until his body recovers from the anemia...he will sprout and be a bundle of zip! :D

Cute Bee! I have had Vets tell me and even use themselves the same wormers so no worries there. The liquid is much easier to measure, I order it in from Jeffers for the horses and the dogs and it works out cheaper than the paste.

I'd have left him with the litter to get the social life for a few more weeks, but with those worms I'm glad you brought him home to get wormed. Apparently the people there were not thinking about that, pups are generally wormed once already by that age.

Well, we are getting one of his sisters also! :D He is just too lonely and little to leave him like this...so we decided to get another Newf.

I think we will name her Darling...so it will be Dewley and Darlin'...but not concrete on that name yet.

The more I read about this breed, the more impressed I am and most pleased to have acquired a few. They aren't real common around these parts and I've never seen one in real life...until now.

What I will do with 3 large dogs, I'll never know....but I do know that swimming next summer is going to be a real hoot! :D
