Hope there aren't too many squeamish guys reading along...

I've always been told not to use soap or any kind of cleanser "down there" because it will put the natural acid balance out of whack and cause infections. The inner parts (vagina) are self cleansing, but the outer parts (labia) should be cleaned (but not harshly or too often) like the rest of the skin--I just use water (and my hands, no washcloth--too delicate) too. I've never had any issues/infections whatsoever, and feel perfectly clean :)

So my doctor appt was today at the dermatologist. well, it was kinda useless. She didnt really look at the area very well, and said, YUP, its excema. (sp??) gave me a prescription for a hydrocortisone cream (dbl strength) and told me to get this expensive cream@ walgreens which is super good and then use the prescription also. well, im not sure what to do. The cream is $15 for a small 8oz tub and the prescription was $10. Not that bad. But the cream said there is a type of Acid in it. Not sure that can be so good for my skin. I think i might use the presciption and my own homemade cream, that ive only started using a few days ago.
Okay, so the funny part is that the lady doc. was asking me what i use to "wash" with "down there". I said.... Nothing, just plain water. She looked at me horrified!!! She said, well, things get pretty dirty and such down there, you should wash. well, my ob/gyn told me that there is no need to "wash" with any products down there because the skin is very sensitive and delicate around your genetal area and unless you have an infection of some sort, there is no need to really wash. The doctor really didnt understand why i wouldnt wash down there and thought that that was maybe the problem. What???? really???? Cuz i dont wash??? I dont think so. Maybe IM wrong, but everything ive read says you shouldnt apply any harsh washes or douches unless you need too. Whatever, anyways, its a little better now. I havent had a mt.dew in almost a week.!!!! im doing pretty well. Rach
:barnie Doctors. I so hear ya. So much of female irritation problems can be from soaps and detergents......I used an antibacterial sopa in the shower ..1 time..many years ago. Boy, did I learn my lesson :he Then, I switched to Phisoderm..when it was a white creamy based soap. I used it diluted, and always only wash the outer folds. I have never douched...good health and hygiene work just fine. And, gravity plays a part in it all too. We are human beings....bodies makes fluids and odors, naturally and otherwise. One would think the medical profession would have a handle on that by now.

Rach...wow, ll I can say is...I hope the creams work. The Dr doesn't seem very informed about some things.

And, congrats on no Mt Dew!! I myself had a medical emergency a week ago. Thought it was appendicitis, turned out to be a kidney stone. So, I have been dealing with drinking gallons of acidic juices and water...taking 4 Rx's. Have to go get a refill today. There are a few diet changes I need to make too....no more coffee or tea, no more spinach..well, limited....cut back on other high oxalic foods.... It's gonna be a tough newxt few months. On the good note...I have lost 6 lbs this week.

I have worn my Google Button out this past week..as well as a path in the carpet to the toilet! :gig:gig

Working on editing my diet......I have never been one to eat salt, junk foods, drink beer or alchohol, eat sugar or sweets etc. I prefer a good healthy meal, fresh or steamed veggies, and the like. I have changed my diet just a wee bit since moving in with my fiance.....but, I think that is where I have tripped myself up. And sodas contribute to stone formation. I had been having nasuea the past few months, and have drank more ginger ale and sprite...but other than that........I love foods like spinach etc...that have high oxalate levels in them. Bummer. And, I choke easy...drinking fluids has never been my forte. I am now trying to drown myself in 128oz diluted juice/water per day. Dr follow up appt yesterday...I asked alot of questions. He said it could take days or weeks to pass a stone. :barnie:barnie

Took me 8 month to pass my last one--7 cm. Earthclinic.com has lots of remedies. Good luck! At one point in the '90s, I had 4 at the same time, a nephrostomy and then lithotrypsy 4 times over about 4 months. Oh yeah, I had insurance then!

Insurance?.....what's that? :hu Oh yeah...yet another Urban Legend..like jobs. I have nothing right now. NO job, no health insurance. I have AFLAC.....but they are only if I am admitted to the hospital. I was outpatient ER.
The ER didn't want for me to save it for pathology....they said not to worry unless I got more stone formation. Then, they would want to know why.
