i made the best risotto from barley, butternut squash, turkey, and turkey broth..... it was so good!

maybe not a low carb but a wonderful whole grain - we eat barley by the ton.

:)
Ohio, I would love some barley ideas. Your risotto sounds awesome. I grew up eating plain with rice with soy sauce. My families version of grains :barnie ..... would love to learn how to use barley besides in beef soup!

Haven't really given much thought to trying anything new.

On my list will likely be

Turkey
Homemade stuffing from homemade bread
Mashed pots & gravy ( I LOVE gravy!!!!!!)
Homemade rolls
Sauted green beans
Corn casserole
Some sort of cranberry compote...unless MIL comes over, she prefers that canned junk

Pumpkin pie (from scratch including roasted pumpkin)
and
Caramel apple pie

and I hope no one comes over :fl

HA HA HA Okie
that is exactly what Mom does...it is a gauge for a slice...LOL

Everyone prefers the canned cranberry stuff. I don't eat it, never could stand the "texture" of it.

hey OF

I let the processer cure my hams. Easier for me and he does a fab job.
Kevin is the best with pork I have ever seen. Tony grew up with him as a friend and they get along great and being that is the family biz and he took over....I let him have at it! OH and the BBQ stuff he does is to die for!!!

over mixing? Hmm...that could be it. I do swirl things to death.
Next batch, less whipping! lol might work, never know!

yea I got some goats that are preggo....so waiting on them. should be Dec and they should pop out some kids. seems so cold for babies, but for me most animals do better in cold weather births than hot weather. my june kids did awful but the cold kids do great.
I don't know about ducks...don't let their little feet freeze into their water pan? :p

I have my turkey already.

If the weather holds, we should have fresh brussel sprouts from the garden and maybe some kale cooked in bacon grease.

I will be making my cheesy cauliflower bake.

I make stuffing out of sausage and squash.

Maybe I will make some zucchini cakes. I made them before but never wrote down what I was doing :p I remember using grated drained zucchini, almond meal, eggs, spices, chopped potabello and parm??? Had kind of a crab cake taste sans crab. Great roll replacer.

Also baked sweet potatoes. Lots of bakes sweet potatoes. NO JUNK added, just the baked sweet potatoes with some good butter.

As for gravy, regular gravy is out. Too many carbs. So here is the only thing I don't make from scratch....
I use Campbell's Cream of Chicken Mushroom soup. It is the lowest carb of all the cream of something soups and when mixed with cream it is tasty and thick.

Also fresh veggies with blue cheese dressing for snacking and slices of cheese and olives.

I am originally from Wisconsin, so I was born a cheesehead :D

My favorite Thanksgiving dessert is sugar-free pumpkin cheesecake. I once gave it to my son and his friends and they had no clue it wasn't loaded with sugar :D
