You have a lot of company in that department :/
I'm not certain what you need to help you through this but there is a fed grant program that will pay just under $6000 for retraining that I am planning to use:
http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/opportunity/index.html

Many use this as a bargaining chip for new employment; that you qualify for funds to get a certification, license, degree, reiterating at no cost to the employer, for whichever of these you lack at entry level, etc.

Ohio and the fed gov have teamed up for a program called Project Hire for displaced workers. Your state may have this.

Hey, my auntie has a cottage at White Horse Beach in Manomet! We take Rt 3, so we go right by you. I'd be happy to send you some kefir grains now if you PM me your mailing address. Once it gets hot, I don't like to ship cultures. Oops, that reminds me, I should think about ordering cheese cultures for the summer season!

If you post a list of what you'd like to plant, I bet you can get all the seeds you need from us here on ss. Mailing seeds costs almost nothing. I am working mostly from last year's seeds, too, but will have some to spare as well.

So many here are in a tight spot...it is rough, but we can still help each other out in small ways, even if just an encouraging word or a cyber :hugs or a few seeds sent via snailmail.

Remember, there is more happiness in giving, so you will be doing us a favor by posting a list! ;)

I have a lot of seed left over from last year I'd be willing to share. They are not heirloom, but I do have some wonderful sunflower seeds for GINORMOUS sunflowers for seeds.

I'll be more than happy to share my seeds from this year or last year. Just say the word.

Oh my goodness kind SS friends, I am so touched! Please, know that what you've said here truly makes me happy. But here's some more truths - we are in relatively good shape for people who have to live with so little. We have no debt to speak of. We own both of our homes, all we have to come up with are the taxes, and maintain them (that's the problem right now, maintaining - if he goes back to work we'll be fine).

I have seeds, because I didn't/couldn't plant them all last year. I've kept them safe and cool. I think viability will be a bit of a problem with some, but I'm going to try to use what I've got first. I absolutely will take you up on your kind offers if I have problems with what I have.

I can give bee talks, but bee classes - they're handled through the club, and that's a good thing. People are paid for talks, so I'll be developing that as a sideline. I think they're worth $150 or so to garden clubs, etc.

Sylvie, thank you for that link - wish we had it earlier. Hubby wanted to go to tech school while he was laid off, for oil burner repair, and unemployment was going to pay for it, but they pulled the funding for it :( They offer the program at night, too, so maybe he can do it at night, although once he's back to work, he has to be available at all times for them. We'll definitely look into it!

Free, let me know the next time you're winging by on Route 3 - we'll meet up, or you could stop by, we're four miles from the highway! I'll pm you my snail mail address.

Thank you all so much. I went on a nice brisk walk on this beautiful 58 day and came home to all of your nice replies - it made my day :love

Now I'm off to teach. Business isn't good there, but I do still have some clients, thankfully.

I have been in a funk too and can't seem to shake it. Even with the nice weather we had the last 2 days.
Some days it feels like this forum is my life line.
I have lots of seeds too. I should go through them and sort them. Something I need to do, before I even consider placing any orders.
I also have plenty to share. I don't think anyone here should have to worry about getting seeds. Between us all I am sure we can help out anyone who needs something.

A big :) for you Ann. Hope your spirits lift soon :hugs

I think we might need a group hug. It seems everyone is so tired of winter and we all need some perking up.

And the fun keeps going on and on......

Yesterday hubby went to my chiropractor because the hip that has been bothering him isn't getting any better. We were told it was bursitis. He had gone to get x-rays but he didn't follow up with the office - he also had seen an associate, and not my chiropractor, who I trust implicitly (he's the one who sent me to Pilates, he knew it would fix my 'bad back', which was really just weak abs - but I digress....he was the fifth chiro I went to, the others were all looking for meal tickets). Anyhoo, Dr. Matt told Greg immediately upon seeing the x-ray that he needed a hip replacement, he's been bone on bone now for almost a year - if Greg had only gone back to the office last year, he could have had the surgery over the winter while he was laid off and he'd be all better now. Know why he didn't go back? Because he said we couldn't afford the $20 copay    Oh, for pete's sake, I go to the chiro when I need to, we definitely aren't that bad off! I could kick him - but then he might be worse off than he is right now :gig Sorry, I really do feel bad for him, this is in his genes, his mother has had a hip replacement and two knees done!

The bright light here is that he realizes now he really does have to take off weight. He wants to start riding his bicycle - I would love it! I used to ride all the time, it's fun, I hope he sticks with it and we actually do start riding. He's hoping to make it through to next year's layoff, but if it gets really bad, he'll just have to bite the bullet and have the surgery sooner. Hopefully not, though, it would be good to get a good year in before that has to happen.
