Well most of us are way far from retirement, BUT.....have you "kinda" planned yours out? I have been banking retirement funds like a maniac and feel I **should** be fine. Of course that is way subject to change LOL

For us, we are moving to a beach area. I SO WANT to live on the coast. I SO WANT the beach at my fingertips every morning.

I SO WANT a very small home with no crap in it....lol
I SO WANT to travel in my camper and just see the country and enjoy it in slow motion.
I SO WANT release from the farm work HA HA

now, not saying all this will fall into place, but I sure can dream lol

just wondering what everyone's idea of "their retirement" might be??

(and we all know that what we plan way into the future is never a given. Life sure can change in a flash.....but if you make it to the retirement age and money is ok, what do you want your retirement years to be?)

hey baby.. slightly off topic..

but i know someone who moved near Naples Fl... the property there is CHEAP..they are basically giving it away. they let me know that there are orange farms for sale and were trying to get me to get one and move there... just a thought for you.

heaven knows you dont have to run after escaped orange trees! if you get a good harvest, great, if not - for the comfortably retired person.. there you go

;-)

My husband and I have always pictured ourselves retired and living in the country like we do now. We have wanted to travel in a trailer for a year though to see the country, but we'd want to have a place in the country to return to.

Our hopes to ever retire look dismal currently however, and for us, it isn't so far away.

Seriously? I'm 35 and still working 10/hour crap jobs. :gig

My retirement plan is to stay as active as I can, suck up to my nieces and their kids when they have kids, and move in with them in exchange for helping around the house and cooking :D

The Dream: Retire at 62 financially secure. Spend a few years exploring the country from end to end. Settle on a small acreage farm with a tiny garden plot and a pair of large rocking chairs on the porch.

The Reality: Forced medical retirement at forty, with a pittance of an income that will probably die before we do. Spending the remainder of my years exploring the local Walmart. Settled on a small acreage with a large garden, chickens, etc. No rocking chairs on the porch, but a lot of rocks in the garden.

It's been 13 years since I "retired", the financial situation is not improving, and I wouldn't change a thing. We are poor, but closer and happier than we have ever been. I'd recommend it to anyone. :)

And mine would have been to stay in CA

But we had a choice of retiring early (I was 48, DH was 51), and moving somewhere cheaper, or continueing to work and staying in the SF Bay Area. It wasn't a really hard choice ;). Just as well, really; DH was at a Silicon Valley computer firm, and left just before the bubble burst. Our main concern was climate - I don't deal well with heat, and neither of us wanted to deal with Winter. Western Oregon is nice - not too hot, rather colder than where we were, but not significantly. We were able to sell our little suburban house in CA, and buy a bigger house with more land in OR. Of course, much of the "more land" is hillside, and essentially useless, but it means our neighbours aren't too close. We've been here 9 years now, and don't regret it at all.

I have no plans. 3 years ago I didn't know I'd be where I am now so I'm just gonna let it work itself out. I'm young, we have retirement funds being saved and hopefully grown and the house will be paid off. That's the best we can do.

LOL you gonna truck out the junk for me! You sweet thing!

Tony and I are planning trips to the beach areas of NC, SC, Georgia basically. Not going way out to CA tho. We take our camper to different beach areas each year and scope out what it would be like if we retired there......of course it is all relative. 15 years from now who knows if the area I liked now, will be the area I like later :hu

6 miles....girl you best be on that beach. Junk and all I would be lol

lol, we're near the beach too. (closer than 6 miles) ;) And our house is quite small.

I'd really like some land, but now I'm becoming a wimp weather-wise and don't think I could handle snow again.

Highs of upper 70's this weekend.
