Well looks like it is time for the farm update from Dizzy Dog Ranch. :thumbsup

Bun watch: (And I mean rabbits....) Nana still is looking sadly at an empty nest box. :th I don't know what happened. I don't see any evidence of lost kits. I do think it is odd she made her nest so early, perhaps something happened back at that point that I missed? Perhaps she miscarried then. In any event, she is now two days past so it seems unlikely she will still kindle at this point.
Sister seems to be doing excellent with her group however. :celebrate Being a good mom from what I can see, but gosh, the way baby rabbits are all snuggled in that fur ball, I don't see how you can check them very well without exposing them to the cold and ....rain. Which of course we are having. :bun

I gave up on those duck eggs. Rats. :hit I fed the sort-of-sat-on eggs to the dogs, they looked perfectly normal and not fertilized at all. So I dunno if I just happened to see that duck laying her eggs slowly or what. She did pull out feathers for the nest and I thought that also meant broody? :idunno Oh well. I'm going to collect the eggs again for awhile and try to find some fake eggs for putting in there to encourage broodiness. I can get good money selling these eggs, I don't want to waste them if she isn't going to hatch any. I need an incubator!!!!! Hubby started making me one but I see I will have to finish the project myself here.

I am going to be gone tomorrow so I went over the goat milking routine with my younger son. They are getting so set in their ways and they do better if I do things just so. Also, I've gotten a lot better at milking them because I've figured their udders out, and I needed to show my son how I manage to milk. He was rolling his eyes at first but when he was done helping, I could tell he realized it was a valuable lesson. It is nice to have his help and to know he can back me up if I'm not feeling well and milk when he gets home.

My poor chickens are so sick of the rain. I'm planting seeds where I free range them so they cannot go out of their pen right now, I need their free range area to recover and grow again, the vegetation holds the hillside so overgrazing is not an option. They are not happy and egg production is down. I find I have a lot less kitchen scraps now than I used to...I am making much better use of the leftovers and such now that I am home and don't have as many goodies to share with them. I decided to stop free-ranging them in the "wild" section where we let the goats go in the summer, because I have just lost too many chickens too quickly that way, I think to a neighbor dog, or possibly a wild predator, but I think it is a certain dog who comes sniffing around occasionally. I don't know who it belongs to, but I've seen it ranging free about 3 miles from here on the road so who knows. I'm thinking I may not be able to let little Emilee go out there with the goats, being so small, until she grows bigger.

Things are looking good with my SSI paperwork and what not so I'm feeling better that things are moving along with that, as well. It will sure be nice to have an income again and we can stop being so deathly frugal. We are starting to have a huge list of things we need to do when I finally get paid, fix the dryer, fix the dishwasher, and fixing one of our two bathrooms that isn't working come top on the list. I'm especially tired of hanging my clothes to dry inside the house and having stiff clothes and towels. I have learned how to live without a dryer but it isn't a good thing. Also, having one bathroom does NOT cut it with four people. The bathroom might be an expensive repair however, might not happen right away. Sigh.

You get used to having just one bath. We have only one bathroom. But, I have come to the conclusion that if we ever do move, unless I live by myself, the house will have at LEAST 1.5 bathrooms. Both my DH and my DD are meditators. I honestly think that statue, The Thinker, is missing a roll of toilet paper, and should be called The Stinker.

Ha ha ha, I agree, we only had 1 bathroom for the last 3 years with 4 people until we got our second one fixed and we did ok. Sometimes there were threats if my son or husband took took long.

Unfortunately I'M the thinker here and need my bathroom time. Where is the emoticon for holding your legs cuz you gotta pee? My bladder, when full, is about the size of a walnut I think! I was a horrible pregnant person.

I'm going down the hill today to see my daughter whom I call Bud here, her nickname. Bud is 28 and has my granddaughter, who is just a pure bundle of cuteness right now. Just walking, one year old. She is the best way EVER to cheer me up. Bud is going to color my hair for me. I had been letting my gray roots grow in and she does NOT approve. They are about an inch long. I had colored my hair my natural shade this time and so it isn't as bad as it could be, but she wants to color it for me so I'll submit. I think I'll probably end up with two-tone hair like she has, but whatever, I'll live dangerously.

Computer Nerd is in charge of the dogs and Trouble in charge of milking, two tasks that normally fall to me, so we shall see what happens today. If I'm slow to respond today it is because I'm gone.
Have a great day everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful day with Bud and the granddaughter! You need a chance to laugh and smile!

Your daughter sounds like my mother. I don't have grey hair or anything yet but since I returned home from college I've stopped coloring my hair and my mother tells me all the time "you need some highlights" or "your hair would look so much nicer if it were lighter..."

I used to color it myself in college because I didn't have the money to pay the big bucks she did for a foil. Each time I'd come home she'd bring me to her sylist. When I graduated she made me sit at the the hair salon for over 3 hours while they "worked on me".

Whatever, she paid.

We had a nice day. She bought me lunch and a latte and filled our gas tank, fixed my flat tire and then took me to the beauty supply store where we chose colors just for me. She let me pick a base color and I went for as natural a shade as I could like my own real color (which is kind of dark brown now). She wanted to give me striking blond highlights and I said okay. She got an elaborate set up and spent a long time putting the highlights in. But they are extremely subtle. She was dissapointed, but I love it. It looks like my own shade but with nice highlights that look like sunshine did it. I'm really pleased. She can do this for me any ol time. My hair has grown quite a bit and I like it longer. I was keeping it really short when I was working because it was so easy to style (quite curly). But I don't want to keep up a short haircut now that I'm home, I used to have to go about every two months. I think I'll just let it grow for awhile and have Bud color it. But next time, I'll pay. But it was nice to have your grown daughter do stuff for you.

The baby, is so adorable. This child is the literal spitting image of Bud herself at that age, except blond, and Bud was just a delightful child to raise. I always wanted another girl, I just didn't realize that my daughter would be the one to have her! I do wish that she had had her when I could have visited more easily and more often, and when I had money for gifts and such...but, oh well. That isn't the deck of cards we got dealt. I have to feel blessed I have this darling healthy grandchild and my daughter so dedicated to her, and turning into such a nice person herself. But the fact that she resembles her mom at that age so much is such a secret delight! Of course Bud herself thinks the babe resembles daddy. Pshaw!

Hmmmm...well there are distinctly THREE baby buns in with Sister, now that I can count them. I guess I was overexcited counting those little rat-shapes. Now I can see they look like little Creme d' Argents and there are three. Nana never had any and the breeder suggests that I re-breed her. Oh well, at least I have these three. I have never seen rabbits so young and they are real cute. I'll take pics asap.

The male kid goats are getting......lets see, how do I say this........

randy?

Sebastian is interested in his aunt, and Buckley in his sister. Buckley reminds me very much of his father at this point. I was "scheduled" to castrate Buckley on Sunday and Sebastian next weekend. I think it has to be tomorrow for both of them. I have the tool. But Ginger is :somad ready to kill Sebastian and with Emilee, it is worse, because I think Buckley is coming close to doing the actual deed. Is it possible he is ahem....ready to perform....early?

I've heard they can breed as young as 2 months :ep
Yay for your baby buns!! :bun
My two refused to use the nest boxes and had kits on the wire in the middle of the night. Lost them all, 15 babies. :hit

Here are new bunny pictures.

And we are trying to dodge the hailstones and find the courage to go out and band the bucklings. I've tried so hard to befriend them. This seems so counter productive! Oh well, it needs to be done...
