Yeah. I used a salt shaker. But you get a lot of rain don't you. Theres an organic control called Sluggo. It breaks down into organic phosphate, which just fertilizes your garden. Or you could let the chickens in before you plant! I would get some Sluggo, but the DE seems to have killed all my slugs.

Well it is not raining today so maybe it will have some effect before the next rain.

But it ALWAYS rains here.

Today is dawning pretty gorgeous though, actually. I slept 12 hours! I barely finished milking the goats last night and when I woke up it was time to do it again. I sleep too much! But since I've been sleeping "too much", I've been feeling better. But I'm the one who feels like a slug sometimes.

The first time I saw one, I could not believe it was a slug.

Do yours match the color of the dirt? When we lived in Battle Ground a lot of the dirt and rocks are bright orange and there were orange ones there that matched. Here we have almost no rocks but they are dirt colored.

I was told the muscovy would LOVE slugs but they cannot get them down and the chickens hate them.

I only see them either just before, during or after it rains (which of course in WA that means ALOT  ) but they are too big for most poultry. My chickens will eat smaller slugs since I don't have ducks. We do have some wild ducks around the neighborhood that have spent alot of time in our ditch but I don't know if they get the bigger slugs. Probably not, since the big ones slime their way up to our porch where we have a couple of chairs that we keep the cat's feed dish on one chair to keep it from rats & opossum that occaisionally show up for freebies yet the slugs sure find it (usually empty from the furry glutton)

Beer traps also work good. Im a heavy vodka drinker, so beer to me is just a bunch of empty carbs!

So "Fat Liver" aka Henry already has a home, the folks came to meet him today. He will be here a few more weeks until after their vacation and when the wife has some time off. So I get to enjoy this one a while longer, he is a very nice boy and an easy keeper.

The rest of the animals are all well. We are having drizzle falling nonstop today AGAIN so I didn't get much accomplished outside today and didn't feel well anyway, my hearing is gone again already unfortunately. Oh well, fun while it lasted. It is not QUITE as bad as it is sometimes at least.

But everything is lush and pretty here this time of year. The alders go through several phases but early summer is their most attractive time. I also have a lot of mountain ash which will soon be covered with berries, and then the salmon berries will begin to ripen. I was thinking of trying to make some jam with some this year. I also plan a big ol' blackberry picking year this year. We never seem to avail ourselves of this bounty. I want to make jam and syrup this year.

I've been clearing out the front garden, one bag a day. What a mess of huge ugly weeds! All things the livestock won't eat. I've made it about 1/2 way around the circle and uncovered a whole bunch of nice plants I forgot I had under there. It is a good thing I had things clearly marked as I almost ripped out a blueberry bush! I had another big fire in the firepit but it still isn't emptied out, and the way it never stops drizzling it could be awhile before I get that all burned up, but it sure is looking better.

I was realizing when the people came today, it really does look better around here, it has helped that I've been home working on my house. But I've been home six months, I would have thought I would have gotten more done, but I guess since I feel so sick so much I should try to be proud of what I've accomplished not hard on myself. But at least it is starting to show that I've made a "dent" in my projects pile.

I could tell the people who came today were envious of my homesteader lifestyle. She asked why I have the goats and I said that they are for milk and her eyes got real big. I showed the kids the baby rabbits and mom surprised me by mentioning how much she likes to eat rabbit, how she wished she lived closer so she could have us raise her some meat too.

I did let her know that I'll have Creme D' Argent's for sale......

I know I would be envious :)

Wait, I am! LOL!! The only thing that makes me wish I had my own place would be chickens and goats. They're allowed in Denver.
