I've chased her with a car for over 20 miles.
* Bandit running, big smile, looks back over her shoulder at SD in the car screaming at her, thinks

"This is the BEST DAY of my whole life! And look! There's momma keeping up for me for once! Wheee! I LOVE being a dog!"

keeps running, SD with fumes coming out of her ears *

yep. we've been saying that now we are fully fenced we can have a circuit to run Miss Wiggles. she ended up on the deck after chasing ducks for the 3rd time. it was very sad.

sorry about your bird but arent they smart sometimes!?!? and give yourself a break - these things happen to all of us.

*hugs*

Gosh, were you here that day? That is exactly how it happened! Except she went inside a GATED community/resort just over the hill. I don't have a key/membership, so I had to race in BEHIND a car that came and opened the door, much to their surprise. It stays open long enough for two cars if you hurry. So I jam in behind him and then go around him and continue chasing Bandit (who stopped politely to wait for me to get through). I'm sure everyone in the Hideaway tells stories about the crazy lady in the Subaru who chases black and white dogs, yelling that they are a Bandit! Bandit! And she is so stinkin' happy about it.

We learned that if we do not chase her whatsoever she usually returns after an hour or two. But since she started killing chickens this really worries us and she generally goes out into the fenced area only or I chain her up.

I know, chaining a free spirit, but she actually likes to be outside so much, she doesn't mind.

When we still had our old Siberian Husky Sasha, we learned all about the 20 mile chase game. Even when she was very old and fat she would run as long as you would follow and even sit and wait for you to catch up with her! Living in the big stinky city we had no choice but to chase her either. :/

We finally solved the problem.

She would take off (she was great at opening doors and gates!) and we would get the car. If we were within eye shot of her we would pull over, get out and open the car door. "Let's go bye-bye!!" We would say and she would run fast as a Husky can go and jump into the back seat.
