I don't know how the laws about ousting people are set up, but I know they can't leave you homeless.

:hugs

Good luck!! Monopolies are worse than government, aren't they? There's no one you can vote out if they screw you over too badly.
That is the thought that has been keeping me going on this Abi, and my realtor friend's assurances she could get me "something better for what they give us". She sounds like she has done this in the past and knows we just bought here and that we are upside down. I'm sure with all the public attention this issue has received in our local press, they will not be allowed to create homelessness. For one thing, there are so many empty homes in our county, banks own a lot of places and many homes are selling amazingly cheap. So I see my realtor friend's point, there are lots of places for sale here that are great and cheap right now, no one can qualify for a loan is what she says the problem is locally (higher unemployment than average in US). Our county was going through massive rapid growth when the economic situation came about and property went from wildly inflating every year to having a huge county-wide correction. We bought this house AFTER that occurred and felt it was easily worth what we paid, but we have a land-only loan, the house is worth so little (converted single wide).

The irritating part for me is what to do about the land, the garden, plants and trees I want to put in. Do I plant apple trees again? Do I buy asparagus? Do I try to put everything in pots? Do I breed more goats? Make more rabbit cages? All of our projects to move our property along seem so pointless if we cannot stay here, so we end up working on shorter term projects instead, like putting wood up for the winter. Guess that is a good thing as well. But I need to do a bathroom remodel, we have been postponing new floors and other necessary improvements until we could afford it, but don't know if we should even try.

I'd postpone costly house improvements, but for gardens, just keep on. It could be a year or a month before they decide anything. So get your food in :) Ignore the new bathroom for now lol.

Man that really stinks.

I know just what kind of lines you are talking about too. We have a giant span of them around here as well. In one place, near a stable where I used to give lessons, there is miles of the lines going through what used to be a woodland with farms on each side. The power company always kept it mowed in a wide swath around and on both sides of the poles. We had a "gate" in the pasture and used to use it to train horses or trail ride on.

I know you are worried, but God has something better in mind for you probably. :hugs

WOW! but i think your friend has a great attitude about it... you may just get a great house out of the deal. i know that moving from your cali house was difficult and maybe you can make up for it now??

but still what a shock.

hee hee hee you'd be surprise what i brought with me from the west coast. i used one of those upack trucks - really i just wanted to bring my good old stove (i had a breakdown and just couldnt leave it so i got the truck at the last minute) but they have a "minimum space" in the truck. so what the heck - i stuffed that baby to the gills. my favorite redneck cousin laughed so hard at me - was i gonna bring some rocks? well....... no but i brought some pavers! and some fencing. and some bamboo poles (the driver laughed at that one)....and totally tore up the garden and brought a bunch of stuff. and i put ads in CL and folks swarmed to get things out of the yard. and i made some money too selling some mature roses and stuff.

esp if you arent moving far, heck yah i'd bring everything out of the garden you can drag or shove in a sack. i know someone who moved and took every living thing in his yard except for the grass.

i know the indecision (will they? wont they? what will i get) would be grinding on me - i like to have a plan. but wow - now that you know what you want in a place you'll be able to be choosier (established paddocks, fencing, a barn/outbuilding, flat land for gardening, water on the property etc) and if you ended with a better house - yipee!!!

onward and upward baby - this could be your brass ring! reach waaaaaaaaay out and grab it!

:)

When I was selling Real Estate (that was back when some lizards could fly) a person sold their house and when they moved they took their deck AND their brick patio!! There were lawyers involved with that one, since the new buyers thought they were buying a house with a deck. :gig

Since your house will be dozed if they take it, I would even take the copper pipes and the wires. Oh yeah! :bun

You can plant stuff in big pots, then mound mulch and straw around the pots so it will be LIKE it is in the ground but easy as pie to take out if you have to move. Or plant as normal and use the "established plants" as part of your price negotiation.

Well one of our neighbors says they will have to "move our house" if we want. Who KNOWS if he is right? He built his entire place by hand himself (no permits needed here so there is a lot of that). It is a very pretty house but not THAT pretty. We told him that we would just as soon help them finish pushing this house down the hill. It needs serious help. It is funny because this house actually has a hitch to still be able to move it, but the one side is cut out and a second half is built there, so it can't really be moved, but the hitch is still attached.

Abi, we already know that they won't "decide" until next YEAR. They told us all that from the beginning. But they keep sending us updates and some sections are off the choices now and the location of that dam is the clincher. This is the only cheap way to it that I see.

Of course, they may pick an illogical choice. Wouldn't be the first time I'm sure. This is our stimulus money at work ya know, did I tell everyone that?
