Sexing chicks is kind of easy if you do it before they are three days old. There are some very good YouTube videos on how to do it and it seems to be almost fool-proof. Once they are past 3 days, you don't have as much accuracy.

Java, I think your EE is confused. Have you thought about counseling? :gig

If I get to move into a house up north with Imooto, we are getting chickens.

Well of the four I hatched, two purebred BOs and two BO/RIR crosses, I can tell by the legs that I have one of each sex. I am a little thrown by one of them having rather green looking eggs. I coulda sworn none of the green eggs hatched, and my roo was a BO so it just can't be an EE. But the other has more yellow legs. My hen of that same cross from last year has yellow legs, so I think my green legged one must be a roo, so he will eventually go to freezer camp.

That will leave me with a BO roo and two BO hens, I'm thinking of putting them in the little coop together eventually, it would be a good size for three adult chickens. I'm afraid he might kinda wear them out though, one roo for two hens might be too much for them. I guess I will just see what he is like, but I'm pretty sure I have those ones sexed. It is the dang EEs I can't figure out. Because they all have such different colors the shape of the feathers is hard to tell, and I'm clueless about what sounds they make until they start to really crow, I don't hear any smaller chicken sounds.

I don't know how confused it is, but I can definitely tell you it does not enjoy having it's picture taken! Now that I've been out there and made it mad, I'm leaning toward roo and I may need the counseling :D And I discovered I have a bunch of little attention hogs - all jumping into the photo every time I tried to gt one of the mystery bird. Sheesh!

Abi, it would be awesome if you could get chickens!

Photos SD! Photos!

How old are yours now?

OK, here's mine - FYI, it's molting the feathers that look like saddle feathers near the tail

Java, that picture looks almost exactly like my little roo. Mine has colors a little plainer, and darker, and has more of that EE feathering around the face. It was sold to me as an Americana. But I'd say that is a roo, that looks like the only one of mine that was presexed as a male.

I'm looking for batteries......I think I'll message hubby and see where he has them hidden, but I can't download pictures onto this computer anyway, they get stuck here. I'm such a computer dunce. I didn't even know you could remove messages from your Facebook wall until now.

My son is working on my blog page for me. I'm kind of excited to get it started. I hope he makes it simple enough for me to figure out! But I've already been collecting some content.

I'll be waiting :D

Now I think roo too. But it was supposed to be a sexed pullet, so :idunno I got it at the feed store and I suppose it could have been a packing peanut. Oh well. I'll call him Stewie, I guess.

well I'll especially take a picture of him. I think mine is ugly, especially when you see how pretty the rest are.

I have a couple other EE hens that are pretty, but they never really looked...feminine. They look alot like this one.
