If you watch how dogs behave with one another you see their concept of fair.....the alpha bitch gets everything!

If only that worked for me....................

ha!

i kinda like the "i'm bigger than you so i get what i want" concept!!! ha ha ha!

little kai has figured out that when they play fetch, Dog#1 puts his head down to pick it up....so she grabs him by the top of his neck. he is normally really patient with her but he had enough. it was pretty funny. she is The Most Annoying Little Sister EVER. hee hee hee

Yea, fetch is so fun. We do that all the time. It is funny, though, ridgebacks cannot get the concept. I mean, I have trained Dee Dee to go pick something up and bring it back, but "fetch" as a game is a lost concept of a ridgeback. They watch the ball or frisbee fly through the air and the minute it hits the ground they look away.
They are weird dogs.

I only had the one Akita foster.....we called him Kuma. I need to dig up his picture here. He was a real good boy.

He didn't have much story...just a shelter pull who got a good home. No issues. This dog was smarter than average and potty trained very young. He went to a very nice family!

Some breeds just are not for everyone. Akitas are like that. My fosters have the luxury of having someone choose a MATCHING home for them. Very often people want the wrong dog for themselves. ESPECIALLY pregnant women; that is a story for another day.....

We might be getting a ridgeback female foster in a few days, a fall-out from someones breeding program. She has separation anxiety and has always lived with her sister, we are seeing if she can come here and be content with other dogs (not sister). Most people do not want to adopt two large, poorly adjusted dogs, but might already have one dog. The sister has a serious breeding fault so they cannot use either one (dermoid sinus). I believe they are getting spayed today which is a good thing for the breed.

But back to self-sufficiency, we are certainly learning to make do! We had a good stockpile of food and supplies when I stopped working but things are dwindling now and we can't grocery shop very much. Hubby has picked up a few things on sale. I'm down to drinking either instant decaf coffee or water. We have potatos but no veggies left. I cooked a big ol' turkey and we have turkey for the next few nights. I have a pork roast to cook. Hubby found butter and flour on sale yesterday but we have no bread. I guess I can make biscuits, I don't have yeast.
We are SICK of tamales, no matter how good they are. Chickens are laying so we sold three dozen eggs and have eaten quite a few eggs.

We ate the one chicken we needed to cull. The rest (except Charlie Harper) are all laying so I don't want to eat them. My "chicks" are laying now. One of the new Buff orpington lays pink eggs? go figger. I thought my white EE was laying the pink egg, but saw this week that I had one green egg each from my EEs for three days running, so the pink pullet eggs have to be from the Buff Orpington. Their moms lay light brown eggs and their dad is a Buff Orpington so don't really understand why Charlie threw a pink-egg-laying pullet.

Somehow I find myself gaining weight....I think it is from not working that physical job and not throwing up as much from constantly aggravating my vertigo. Now I just go lay down on my warm little bed when it comes on. It is nice I have finally got some more of my house organized. These things are really nice, but soon we are going to run out of toilet paper and dishsoap and stuff. I sure wish it wasn't winter and we didn't have to buy so much hay, and the goats are eating like three times what they normally do right now, being almost due. And somehow I need to come up with a disbudder doo-hickey tool within a month.
Things are stretched pretty thin.......I am thanking God we got that Wilco gift card from whomever that was, it has really helped us through January and we have plenty of animal food other than hay to last at least a month more. Hopefully something will come through by then. Maybe my baby goats will just have horns. I hope I can figure it out somehow. Where is Rent-a-Disbudder when you need them?

yikes! aint that right!

sorry you are feeling the pinch. it can be trying.. we always find that just as we are about to panic...something good happens. practice deep gratitude for what you have, waste nothing, and get to love water!

sending hugs

Where did you go?

Heh, do you know the reasons a bunny would lose weight? One of mine just doesn't eat as much. But she is a bit thinner.
