Glenolam, I only milked her once a day because either the right side filled up really slow or the kids nursed out the full side but then stopped. I did see the Buckling trying that side at least once.

If they are not nursing that side well, is once a day milking okay? I don't have enough "staff" here to help me twice a day at this point because it is taking three of us at the time being.
Once a day milking is all I ever did. Both Big G and I work full time so I don't have time to do twice a day milking.

I also FORGOT teat dip! Oh my gosh, I hope I didn't cause an infection. I did wash them before but did not dip after.
I'm sure she's fine. Plenty of people forget all the time or don't do it at all.

I DO make soap, Glenolam....I've been BUYING canned goats milk for my soap. But for a couple weeks this milk has colostrum, right? After I save enough for a supply for bottle feeding of a newborn, can I make soap with colostrum milk?
Sorry - I think I remember you telling me that in my journal a while ago. My memory isn't worth crap anymore! You sure can make soap with the colostrum milk. It's the same thing, just with added antibodies. Save what you'd like and use up the rest. I thought there was colostrum in the first few day's worth of milk, then it turned into regular old milk....I'm sure it tapers off somewhere, but I only saved milk from the first three days after kidding because I thought anytime after that the milk was just regular milk. :hu

Glad to hear the girls are doing well. I'd think Donald will calm down once the kidding storm is over and everyone can be one happy family again...just bigger!

Well when everyone talks about their herd queen, in my herd it is my wether. Molly is very non assertive. Ginger is in the middle, she bosses Molly around, so I call her my herd queen but I don't think she acts like most. Donald is the pushiest and the leader, the friendliest and usually I use him to make the other two cooperate. Whereever he goes, they wanna be. I can actually let them free range here because Donald will not leave and they will not leave him.

Thanks! and I agree, it was very informative to read that. I feel so much more prepared for Molly's delivery. I went back and read the fiasco farms section about that too and it was very helpful. They have some birth position drawings there that helped me envision what Katie was describing.

Congratulations on your goats! They are cuties! Sorry I'm so late. I haven't been online much and just been busy. Glad everything worked out for you. Sounds like the placenta came out in pieces. Great job on everything! :thumbsup

Thanks Karen! I'm not out of the woods yet, one doe to go!
Those disbudding videos are awesome, I bookmarked that. I never think to search for videos like that.

I cannot hear the sound so I'll have to play them for Hubby.

Imagine the little goat crying like an infant :) - and there wasn't much talking - she said something to the effect of "yes, it's over that fast" I think she was teaching the person holding the camera how to do the disbudding.

That little goat didn't look too bothered by it but it was hard for me to watch.

The x30 is what I used on that little buckling I did yesterday. We used the "regular" tip that comes with it - not the smaller one. The buckling was an alpine/nubian/nigerian mix - not too big, not too small.
