vt-c, they sure try to sugar coat everything don't they? Just to get their agenda passed. I don't understand why they want us to be a Socialist country when it has never worked anywhere else in this world.

While waiting for someone at the airport, I caught part of a story on TV. They were talking about the 'stimulous' package and they mentioned a medical component. It seems that the federal governmet wants all the medical records tied together so they can oversee personal physicians' advice and prescriptions to patients 'just to make sure the doctors have the best info'. Right. It sounds like the first step in the govt regulating what types of treatments individuals can receive.
This worries me. I don't want the government to be making decisions regarding my medical care again. Last time the government was in charge of my health, I had a stress fracture in my femur and was told it was a pulled muscle. When they did realize the true problem (a month later), I was promptly put on crutches for five months.

I'm all for electronic medical records. I went to my Dr this past week and was really glad to see the office is going electronic and my doctor and nurse were both looking at my record on a laptop, and they were able to get my records from my previous provider in another town. I wish all my medical records were electronic because I had an allergic reaction to a steroid once, and I don't remember anything else about it. I'd have to go digging through my copy of an illegible Army medical record. And I have no clue on my shot records. Again, I'd have to go digging through my Army records and boxes of paper work from years ago, to find my shot record and see if I'm current. I assume I'm current since I got a bunch of shots when I joined the Army in 2001. My point is, electronic medical records are good.

However (in fear of sounding too much like good old dad, Dacjohns), can someone show me where it says in the stimulus bill that the EMRs are going to be on the internet, and that the government is going to further dictate what sort of procedures and medications we are going to be able to get?

The only way to make your medical records accessable to any doctor or facility that is treating you any where is to place them in a central data bank that will be accessable through the internet. I, for one am concerned about this for two reasons.

The first reason is the ability for an unauthorised person hack into the data base and alter, delete, or review the information in your records or use that information to harm or defraud. With the pentagons computer system (one of the best in the world) being hacked on many occasions, I dont trust the government to keep this information secure. Identity theft is on the rise. I have had my personal information illegally accessed 5 different times from 5 different orginazations in the past 4 years. My bank "accidently gave my information (and the information of 70,000 other accounts) to my state because the state wanted the information of people receiving assistance (about 900 accounts). Rather than type in the numbers of the poeple in question into their system and then run a report, the bank ran an electronic file containing the name, address and SS of EVERYONE and provided it to the state. The state then did not protect the information that they had no right to have, when their computers were hacked. My college "lost all kinds of financial information on students (they were not sure which ones) when the lap top of one of the advisors was stolen. This information should not have been on that lap top but the advisor found it "easier" to do her job this way. A former employer (IBM) who is a computer giant, lost my personal information along with the information of other former employees, when their computers were hacked. I have also had a store where I used my credit card lose my information along with that of others, when they were hacked. I, knock on wood, have not had anyone use my information YET, but you never know when it will happen. I would not want my medical information to be tampered with or my medical insurance information be used by someone to run up bills that I would be expected to pay. I would rather take my chances with the old paper system and my memory regarding my medical history.

My second reason for not wanting a central repository for this information is that it makes it that much easier for the government an employer, or an insurance company to be able to use information there against you. An example would be if you smoked during your younger days. You may have quit 20 years ago but they could say that you are a higher risk for cancer and you could be denied a job, medical insurance or lesser governmental medical care because of this. An employer could deny you a job because of a nervous break down that you had 10 years ago. The governmental food police could deny you some type of disibility benefits because you had high cholesterol or were over weight for much of your life and then you had a heart attack and needed SSI. Too much information about you kept in one place is not good. There are alot of evil people in this world who look for opportunities to exploit others for their own gain.

Oh to the poster who was talking about the $500 tax cut, it is not a cut we are getting. A cut actually reducing your taxes by that amount. We will be getting a check(that will be taxed on this yrs taxes BTW).
Actually, it's down to $400 now, but it is not a rebate check. It is a credit. It will show up as payroll taxes not paid each week.

Medical records ALREADY move via Internet. That is how a medical transcriptionist in India can transcribe your records from America.

Yea, I was going to say, medical records are already relayed over the internet. I really see nothing wrong with it, having those records available if I'm far from home and get injured is a good thing. Can bad things be done from good processes? Of course they can. Does that mean we don't try to make things flow more efficiently? I certainly hope not. The fact is that we don't trust any of them to do the right thing.

I am not worried about the storage of the information, I am worried about how gvmnt will use that information to influence treatment. We've already seen what insurance companies do to people.

The black helicopters are hovering over your house. HIDE!

Instead of listening to all the talkers from the other side you should read the bill yourself. When you read something. think it through and try to see what it is really about and how it might require some workers to do whatever it is. Imagine that Reagan got the bill passed instead of the black Muslim guy from Kenya.

There are so many lies out there about the stimulus bill. So many people just buy right in to them. I'm sure it has some pork in it. It's impossible to pass a bill without pork in it the way the system is set up. The pork and earmarks are a very small percentage though. Most of it is for good programs. Just remember ACORN is not listed in the bill. So if you hear someone saying that just discount their comments as uninformed. Same with the mouse habitat in San Fran.

Give it a chance. If it works we'll all be better off. If not, we were in the ditch when he started, I guess we'll stay there.

Yes it was. I was just trying to put it in words that all the conspiracy folks could relate to.
