my sister is sick again and now i'm sick. she's been sick for like 2 weeks. she coughs like a 90 yr old man who smoked all his life. she has asthma though and i dont which i'm guessing is why her cough is worse. she was puking and coughing and slept all day.

now me and my sisters usually pass it between us but we all get different sypmtoms. rosey gets bronchitis emily gets the flu i get a cold with a bronchitis cough.

i usually cough like an old man all winter -and i have the terrible deep voice to prove it- along with swollen tonsils and runny/stuffy nose. but thankfully i seem to be outgrowing that now that i'm 18.

i knew last night i was getting sick because before i get sick when i clean my ears it is sore, and then my tonsils start up, then my nose and cough, then full blown sick. but last night it wasnt that bad so i thought i had a few days... nope.

couldnt sleep so i finally fall asleep at like 2 am. only to wake up at 4 am feeling like i'm gonna barf. so i go in the bathroom. no barf. feel terrible but no barf. i'm extrememly hot and sweaty (which is weird cause my dad keeps the house colder then i like) so i'm laying on the bathroom floor naked with a bucket for like an hour. i finally feel a better enough to put my pjs back on and get back in bed with the bucket.

dad comes in hollering at like 9 am to wake me up. so not in the mood. explain to him. he gets quite, says to stay in bed, and leaves. finally! i was so gonna barf on him if he kept buggin me.

so anyway, my tonsils arent swollen but my throat is sore, no cough, no barfing, sneezed a few times. but mostly i just feel terrible.

okay, now i'm done rambling. what do y'all suggest?

ETA: and i'm on yaz and some other med... some hormone something or other to regulate my period. doctor junk.

It seems a lot of folks on the forum have been sick this winter, OGG. A lot of pneumonia going around, I think, which is nothing to fool with. :(

Can you get to a doctor?

Gargle with baking soda, take some Tylenol if your running a fever. Sip chicken broth and go back to bed.

But that's what I would do. :idunno

Keep and ear on your cough and lungs, if it gets bad go to the doctor,

Drink chicken broth with loads of garlic or take a teaspoon of raw honey mixed with cinnamon that should help with your sore throat...

to boost your immune system... take lots of vitamins b's, c's, and D's along with echinacea (purple cone flower root) and lots of water...

if it moves into your chest I would use an ointment with eucalyptus oil in it... we use some that's called rawleigh's medicated oinment... my daughter has asthma and it's the only natural treatment I've found to help with it... I hate to have to put her on steroids so every little bit helps...

:hugs hope you feel better soon...

How much exercise do you get?
I know that sounds like a dumb question (especially when people have exercise-induced asthma), but I found out years ago that exercise really makes a difference with me. I hate to exercise!! But my ex and I were talking once and he said that since I was so sedentary, if I would walk a mile every day I would lose a ton of weight. I took him up on the challenge and walked a mile every day except Sundays for a solid year.

I didn't lose a single pound. BUT it was the first year that I didn't get bronchitis or pneumonia. In fact, I didn't even get a cold. Since that time I've gone for walks a few times a week, and I can't remember the last time I had a cold.

Of course, I have end-stage cancer, which sucks, but at least I haven't had any cold/pneumonia/bronchitis issues in years. I don't know if exercise would help you, but it couldn't hurt. Most Americans are seriously exercise-deficient.

Two things that are required.
Real cod liver oil ( www.drrons.com ) , and zero sugar in the diet.
Those two things, will put you in a place where on the rare occasions that you do get sick, it will be very light on infection, and short in duration.

thanks for the tips everyone.
well my stomach aching was because the medicine i'm on. the doctor said it will make me go #2 more but it gives some people a little diarhhea.... A LITTLE?! it was bad... a 5:18 AM mad dash to the bathroom bad. but now my stomach is not hurting at all and my head feels better.

throat is barely sore but now i keep sneezing and my nose is kinda runny. so in a few days i'm likely to look like rudolph.

i'll tell my sister about that, thanks.

i'm pretty active i think. i love being outside and i hike with the goats even in the snow. my one sister hates everything outside. i think she will move to a big city. my other sister (the one with asthma) is minimally active. she says she does this and that and yadda yadda, but she really isnt. i think her asthma is a little exercise and a little long cat hair induced. when she was a baby the doctor said she was allergic to long hair cats but she has outgrown it.

i'm trying to get healthier but there is gonna be chocolate and soda and ice cream and all that in moderation. cannot live without sweets totally!

i think my family would be alot healthier if they would excercize more but none of them listen to me, so thats unlikely.

I read the exercise is good to get your body cleared. Some ginger will help too! We are dealing with flu and pnuemonia.Been a long 2 weeks for us. When I had it I would drink traditional dark miso with some pressed garlic in it. I like roasted garlic far better!

I got some onion soup,so that is better than nothing.Onion, garlic, and ginger are the 3 I recall. I saved this herb page for ideas for us:

http://www.herbs2000.com/disorders/pneumonia.htm

I take lots of vitC and some zinc when ill. Kids get gummi's with C,zinc, and echinacea.

Slippery elm and marshmallow root for the throat/gut.I just open the caps and eat the powder.

A gargle with water that has a few drops of grapefruit seed extract is good for the sore throat.Nasty bitter taste though.

Apple cider vinegar and honey mixed half and half is the tonic of choice for the crud around here. The other suggestions of garlic, chicken broth, onion and ginger are all good too. I make chicken soup with all those ingredients in it and it is good tasting too.
Ginger clears your sinuses and soothes the stomach.
Garlic is antiviral.
Honey is antiviral and heals burns.
ACV kills the bad bacteria and leaves the beneficial bacteria alone. It is also good for food posioning and diarrea.

Hope you feel better soon.
