I'm sure the lone fawn will not do well. My instinct as a dog rescuer is to catch it and bring it home, but I doubt that 1) it would let me and 2) that we really need another deer around here. But it is probably a moot point anyways, it has been two nights now and our woods are thick with coyotes.

These are all mule deer....

Yesterday afternoon, I took my bike out to the farm. It was a warm day, and it takes way less gas to run. But, I was out there later than I wanted to be. I ended up coming home in the dark. I do not want to do that again. I normally see a lot of deer at that time between the farm and home. Thankfully, I didn't see any.

Since I've been here, I've learned to really slow down if I see one, even in the distance...there always seem to be others ready to join it on the other side of the road! I can clearly see now what happened to our maimed fawn, I don't know why we didn't think of that.

I strongly disagree. It will imprint on humans. It is a wild animal not a domestic animal. It is hard to meet its dietary needs unless you know exactly what you are doing, even if it is weaned which it should be by now.

After a short bit of trying to find mom and the other fawn it will likely hook up with another doe. By this time of year they are weaned so it may do well. You can always hope. I agree with both of you, there is always the thought of bringing them home, but we all know it's wrong. It's the way of the wild to work it out, or not.
