After doing a real quick web search I have surmised that it is smiley and the plural is smileys. Humph, that just flies in the face of accepted spelling conventions. But then I also found "smilies". Oh, the horror of American English and common usage.
When he is learning to spell, I will try to remember to teach him the correct way!

I first signed up at BYC about a year and a half ago. When Brennan (my now 5 year old) would ask me what I was doing, I would say "reading about chickens." So now, each time he sees me at one of Nifty's sites, which all look similar, he asks me, "are you reading about chickens?"

He reads over my shoulders sometimes and thinks the smileys are funny. He asks, "What's that one doing?"

I just pulled up the reply box so I could show him the menu with all the smileys. He wanted to put the best ones in a box to show everyone.

From BYC:
"We went some relatives for a family dinner and found one geocache along the way." Just an omitted word and not a spelling or grammatical error, but I couldn't resist. (I'm dead meat......)

Here's a song to calm your nerves. Maybe I should post it on your thread.

Lullaby and good night, with roses bedight
With lilies o'er spread is baby's wee bed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed

Lullaby and good night, thy mother's delight
Bright angels beside my darling abide
They will guard thee at rest, thou shalt wake on my breast
They will guard thee at rest, thou shalt wake on my breast
