I was thinking about it this morning. She was open and honest in talking to me, said she'd take the schedule home and see what she could do, but ... Hasn't mentioned it again since. And I still have two checks that aren't cashable.

So we'll see. I may yet have to talk to the pastor. I think I'm going to lay everything out in a letter to her first, in case she is forgetting. What she seems to have been proposing at one point would have me working for variable wages ... As low as a little over $3 an hour in March. If I pay tithes and put gas in my car to drive to work, there's not much left over to live on.

We need to pick a new book!!!

I had suggested, I think, James, or Peter's epistles? There's enough there to discuss, I think, but it won't be a major "commitment" at 2 chapters a week, since we are still kinda new and can assess how we're doing with it as a group? Might be a good guide in selecting further books to study?

Is BB deciding? Or are we taking a vote? I'm not too picky really about what we do next, I'd just like to see it get started, since I missed out on 1 John. :)

Shiloh, I was just thinking about reading James just a couple of days ago. I am all for reading it since I am going to anyhow. Thanks to all of your prayers, the little guy is hanging on and they have now set the surgery date for tuesday. It was really critical due to the fact his lung had collapsed and his heart was not getting the blood he needed so they have changed the ventalator and gave him blood transfusion.

Do you think we fail to finish a book of the Bible because we are attempting to study like they do in a group setting where everyone returns to the same place, at the same time each week and can pick up the discussion at the same place?

This forum cannot be like that, sadly, so maybe we could alter our study group methods to suit? Any suggestions that would enable us to keep on track and actually finish a certain book?

If not, could we just pick a topic and everyone contribute what they find in the scriptures to fit that topic or help others deal with that situation in life? Like applied learning. I learn things so much better if they are applied and discussed as to their application.

I hate to admit this, but this is why I find Sunday school class so tedious....every one that I've ever attended was the same. The teacher reads a few verses, explains the verses, minimal discussions is allowed due to time constraints and we do a couple of more verses the exact same way the following Sunday.

Not all people learn in that manner~ I know that I certainly don't.

Bee, you'd probably enjoy my SS class. We all share what we want. Some verses have more discussion, some less. Other verses are brought in quite often to compare what the Bible says about the subject. People are able to ask questions and disagree. Yes, there are time constraints, but if we don't finish a discussion, next class, we go back to where we left off. We even back track several verses at times. Our teacher may or may not explain the verse. He's more likely to ask us what we get out of the verse.

I like that idea, DD! Just dry reading of material and explaining the interpretation doesn't really interest me. I've been to enough churches to know that all preachers didn't go to the same university and so preach what they were taught.

When they do that, one has to sort between the different teachings and theories of their university professors and not necessarily what the scripture seems to say.

I think that getting several perspectives on any given verse gives one more to work with than just one man's learning.
