Hubby is a film noir fan as well, so I watch a lot of them.

We often comment on how beautiful the women were before everyone routinely went under a surgeons knife to become identical. Some had large noses, small breasts, and even a crooked tooth every now and then, but SO much more stunning that the "identi bots" they call actresses today. Another thing they moved like LADYS. Most modern woman, myself included, move like linebackers.

I like the way they spoke in those old movies, such clear diction. And how they would burst into a song or dance. Nowadays those things would seem corny in a movie, but back then they pulled it off. I love Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Fred Astaire, they were sooooooooo handsome. But they were before my time.....they were more my mom's age.

I'm a sucker for ANYTHING with Audrey or Katharine Hepburn, or Cary Grant! Or Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly, Humphrey Bogart.... I could go on & on! Savingdogs - I agree, the snappy dialogue is rarely matched in a modern movie. Oh, I forgot Bette Davis! And no one can keep me on the edge of my seat like Alfred Hitchcock! Hmm, I might have to see what "oldies" I can find on Netflix tonight! :)

Dark tanned clones with fake breasts. :sick I guess hollywood thinks all men like dark skin. The women in those old movies used to have fair skin and big eyes. Real women with distinctive features. Old movies often surprise me, but modern movies stick to a lame and predictable pattern.

As far as Hitchcock ... my all time favorite is "The Rope". It was filmed in real time and will give you the total creeps. :p

I also enjoyed "Dear Murderer" with Greta Gynt and Eric Portman. :thumbsup

It was called "Possessed" starring Joan Crawford (when she was still good looking) and Clark Gable, one of his earliest films. It was sooo good. It has a happy ending ending and i highly recommend watching it, just have some tissue paper nearby if you are a "cryer" Crawford lays it on thick.
I guess i like these old romantic movies because i don't have any romance in my real life. I'm in love with the idea of love, it's just the actual mess and heartbreak that comes with it that i don't care for. And the actresses in those old black and white movies were so much better looking than modern actresses. I usually prefer film noir or sci-fi, but a good romantic flick is hard to beat.
Red Sonja :th

Sorry, I love old 70 and 80's films as much as my old westerns!

Yeah, true lies, you've got mail, when harry met sally. forrest gump are all good but they just don't turn on the water works for me, and none of those actresses are what i would call beautiful. One exception would be Titanic. The actress who played opposite of Dicaprio was quite stunning.
Well last night TCM showed Casablanca. Of all the TVs and all the gin joints in the world, they had to show it on mine. I don't know much, but i know the problems of a man who likes romantic movies don't amount to a hill of beans. So here's looking at you, kid!
