Ahhhh I hate it when I type out a bunch of stuff and it disappears.

:he :barnie :he

Let's re cap.

MR no ideas planted. I am sure that is the impression people get because most of the time I am venting and complaining on here. Which is a bad habit I should try and break.

I used to think 2 acres was going to be enough land. But now I know better. For pastured animals and the general cost of feed more land is needed. I really want a smaller not tiny, remember I have 3 kids, home. With more land for animals, dirt bikes and gardens. Something for everyone.

Quality of life here in Ca is good but expensive. After Jan 2008 when my DH had his cancer surgery my out look on things changed.
Yeah the big house on the hill is nice, view is great and all. But I would rather not have my dh working so hard and away from the family. It's not good for his health. Or mine. :D

I hope for your sake Indy Mac/ One West can get your re fi done. I can't really believe ours went through. Maybe you should tell them off like I did. Wait scratch that, what's the chance of it working twice? Just keep pushing them. They took ours and rolled in a huge amount of debt as well. Even with the market and appraisal coming in so low. Where there is a will there's a way. :hugs

Happy thought of the day.... It's not 7 degrees here. Thanks for the reminder Wildsky!!

Pumpkin is going in the oven!! Whoot!!!

This is a 13lb Cushaw I grew. I sliced it into 2 inch slices. This one did have a bulbous end and some seeds. :D

It looks delicious. The color in the picture is a bit darker than real life. I think this is gonna make some great pie!!

Gina reading your post is exactly me now

I stopped the "real income" farming cause it was killing Tony
he has a real job (48 hr week) and farmed

I saw the toll on him physically and mentally

I stopped it.....life is not meant to be miserable ---physical or emotional if you can help it

sometimes stepping back and slowing down and stopping are the best way to go !! it is what I am doing right now lol

Yes FF they get really sweet on their own when roasted. Just wonderful with butter and salt.

Karen, I think there just comes a time in life where we realize the people mean more than the stuff. Sometimes it takes a life altering event to realize that. It's sad but true. The transition from one lifestyle to the next is just a bit@#. If your not being forced to change it's even harder. My dh is miserable. But only he can learn this lesson. I can't force it. I don't want him to have any regrets, or what ifs. I just need to do my part and be here and support him. :idunno It's hard to explain. :hu

Al, I got to tell you this is the first year I have raised these Cushaw. And I also must admit that's what I
they are. I am not positive. I was shocked at how well they did. Pretty much took over my designated pumpkin area. Grew 20 ft down hill and produced huge squash. They are an heirloom form Baker Creek so I am saving every seed I find. The shape on this one and about 3 others was not the norm, heck maybe they were and I just didn't know it. But the "necks" of the squash grew really long and fat. Solid pumpkin. Just amazing. I am sure they would grow for you. Probably very well.

Well I need to get moving on pie. I took the kids to a doctors appointment and stopped at WM on the way home. That was a bit scary. But not as bad as Cost Co. I wanted to stop in and pick up my photos. The parking lot was maxed out. I drove right on by and came home. :sick

I'll be back later.

I'm in the same boat with hubby working like a dog to bring home the bacon... it's hard to watch them be so miserable and work so hard... but I do what I can to help support him... Sometimes it's all you can do...

Thanks CrimsonRose.

I have only baked them into pie once before. I used a regular Betty Crocker recipe and I thought it s fine. I did find another recipe on line yesterday designed for Cushaw. I am going to try both today. that is if I ever get off this computer.
