Thanks FF.

The Toms are getting a bit randy. I was going to ask you what you thought about their behavior. The other day one young buck was mounting and older hen. Then the other two toms started pecking her on the head. :( I shooed them all off. I have not seen the same behavior since. Just wondering if I need to split them up or let nature take is course.

I keep thinking I am supposed to keep them for a year before freezer camp. But what do you think about butchering them at 8 months? That's how old they will be in Nov.

I would sure go for it as long as they are a good weight for you. We usually butcher anywhere from 14 to 22 pounds. I just really don't need a bird much bigger than that.

How much are they weighing right now?

Uhhh Sunsaver I really have no idea. That area is a slope around my driveway. I have tried to grow flowers and plants there for years. A couple years ago I gave up and covered it in about 10 inches of free mulch.

This year I needed the planting space so I raked back the mulch. The rows follow the slope and the mulch acts as a berm to hold in the water. It's working great.

I think the top row might be close to 50 ft. Then the two smaller on the left are maybe 10 and 6.

I know that you can click the "share" button from your photobucket account but it will share all the pics in your album.

I jus tdid a quick test and I think you use the HTML option under the picture. Inother words, from the photobucket page copy the HTML link and post it as a status thingy. I'm really tired and I'm not sure I'm making sense but I did get a picture to go from PB to FB that way!

LovinLife,

I bought off of the resale board at the fair. So mine was delivered with a bunch of other animals to our local 4h place. My SIL set it up for me. Most of the full service butchers had tables set up at the fair. They came and picked up the animals take it of site to kill, process and then call when it's wrapped and done.

Makes things easy.

Wow, It's almost Aug. Time is flying. Let's see...

We actually had a drizzle of rain last night. First real precipitation in months.

School starts in 17 days. :woot

I have been re planting in the garden. More purple and green pole beans. Some replacements for the spaghetti and zucchini squash the gophers ate. :somad

Speaking of gophers. I think there eating the roots off of my corn. I have had 3 or 4 stalks fall over in the past two days. Not sure whats up there.

Freedom Ranges are doing great. They very actively scratch and peck the ground. Once they have their fill of feed they like to lounge in the shade. Go figure.

I saw a young Tom mount one of my older turkey hens. And he figured out what he was doing. Now I have fertile eggs again. Thinking of maybe hatching some more.

Working on some sewing for the girls. Making some skirts. Easy stuff for school.

I have been dehydrating things as they come from the garden. My tomatoes are just starting to turn red. Hey did you know that if you pick a nice branch off of a tomato plant and stick it in the ground you can grow another plant?? I have done 6 this way so far. I have a couple heirlooms that are producing best so I am trying to make more. We will see how it goes.

I have birthdays coming up. Busy time of year. 2 of mine in the next month and 4 cousins. :th DS wants to up grade his quad. At first I said absolutely not. But then I realized I would be killing two birds with one stone because DD will get his. The older used ones are not too bad. But still more than I want to spend. FIL bought himself a used quad and dh and ds striped it down cleaned it up, did some touch up paint and took it back to him tonight.

All this is really making me want to go camping. :barnie Desert season can't get here quick enough.

Other than that things are kinda boring around here. Just how I like it.
