hey I have a question. Does anyone know how to use the pics on photo bucket on FB??

g
I jus tdid a quick test and I think you use the HTML option under the picture. Inother words, from the photobucket page copy the HTML link and post it as a status thingy. I'm really tired and I'm not sure I'm making sense but I did get a picture to go from PB to FB that way!
Thanks I will try that.

Monday July 18th

Lets see......

Today is one of my brothers B day. Happy Birthday big Bro!!!

Not much going on this week.

Freedom Ranges are now almost 3 weeks. Still in the yard hut with the light at night. I think I will keep them as long as possible. Just to make it convenient.

Garden is growing well. I picked several yellow squash and zucchini this week. My butternut in the yard is producing really well. Still picking pole beans and cucumbers.
When does corn get corn?

The weather here has been Ca perfect. Mid to high 70's with an ocean breeze. It's supposed to warm into the high 80's for the next week.

I have been up since before dawn and got started on my house chores early. Almost done. :woot

Kids are off to the beach today with Aunties and cousins. I am going to try and get some school shopping done. DD 8yo has no clothes. Literally. She is very picky so I just don't buy her any. :idunno I have some skirt ideas in mind. Looks like I am going to need to do some sewing next week.

I also need to take my new kitten to the vet for shots and neuter. That's not going to be cheap. :tongue

In the kitchen....

Kefir humming along.
Kombucha on the counter. If I started with a live store culture about how long does it take? 3 weeks?
Limoncello is brewing.
I canned 14 quarts of peaches yesterday.
Made the granola recipe with GF granola. Need to mix in the fruits and nuts today.

Oh, I have some turkey issues. 3 toms are all getting a bit randy. They seem to like on of my older hens. She is definitely out numbered and getting picked on. To the point where while one tom is standing on her the others will peck her on the head. :rant What do I do about that? I have an add on CL to sell some or a mating pair. I want a couple for the freezer. Do I need to divide them up? Perhaps by age? Or pull one tom to keep with my older hens and fence off the other 4. That would put 2 male and 2 female juveniles together. I have no idea what to do.

Well I guess I should get my grove on.

I'll be around.

I think that's how much ours weighs right now. How did you get the pig to the butcher's??
When we get a pig or cow from the farmer they usually deliver the animal to the butcher for us. When we needed a way to transport sheep to the butcher we built a transport cage for the truck bed. We simply bought some cattle panels. We fitted a panel along each side of the bed, a piece of a panel cut to fit each end and a panel cut to fit for the top. We hooked all of the panels together with quick chain links, so that we could collapse it later and swing the back panel open like a door at the tailgate end.

When installed the transport crate is like an upside down box with an open bottom in the truck bed. We strap it down tight with ratcheting tie downs, so that it won't move. It works best with a rubber mat in the truck bed or something similar to help give the animals traction when riding. We also put a tarp over our transport under the tie down straps to make the ride less stressful for the animals.

This thing is easy to deal with, pretty darned inexpensive to make, and easy to store flat between uses. ;)

Thats a great transport idea Free. Sounds sturdy and safe. For a pig you would definitely need one of those loading chutes.

I use the Bob's GF granola as well. I found the 2lb bag at Wall Mart pretty well priced. The recipie came from around here somewhere. You soak the oats in kefir overnight. Then sweeten with maple syrup and honey. That's why its such a treat. WM also carries the Tasty hot cereal. Closest thing to cream of wheat. My kids love it. That I bought in bulk from Azure Standard.

I was going to order the oats in bulk straight from Bob's but the shipping was a killer.

My local Walmart doesn't carry any Bobs Red Mill products. Nor many GF ones at all.
A local grocery store has some BRM but not allot and what they do ave is very pricey. :barnie

Look around a bit. A couple of our grocery stores also carry Cream of Rice, by the same maker as Cream of Wheat.

Get active dipence! Get that store manager and REQUEST those products. You are certainly not the only one around who needs them! Give the manager "the talk" about how much money he is going to make by a simple little promotion and a small section devoted to GF.

When we went to the lake recently I asked about the GF items in the store. The tiny little grocery store down there had a nice GF base of foods that would help most anyone. ;)

Definitely ask for the products. We have a WM every mile and a half here. :he One store only carries a couple items here and there mixed in with the other products. The other has a nice grouping of all their GF stuff.

I was also at Big Lots last week. Not sure if those are nation wide but it's a discount store. They had a bunch of BRM stuff in those little 1 lb bags. Soup mixes, oats (not gf, I think my sil bought them all) and some mixes. The price was half of what the grocery charges.

Big Lots may be nation wide. I'm pretty sure that's the name of a store around here.
