A number of years ago, the wife thought she was helping by having the township road crew give us a dump truck load of free dirt that they had from digging ditches. I have been fighting this nasty root-spreading ivy/vine in the garden for almost 6 years since then. I have it just about eradicated. I sacrificed a big chunk of garden last year to Round-up to knock it back. It's now still only in the old compost area and started in the asparagus. Working on it...the compost area is starting to look pretty clear.
is it like a clingy like vine? like when your cloths touch it it sticks to it like a velcro? we had something like that here, it was crazy, we tore most of it out and let it dry in the driveway to kill it, still smaller pieces pop up ,but its alot more controlled. it also came from free dirt lol..
I had looked up what it was a couple of years ago, but I forgot the name. It's not like velcro, it reminds me more of an ivy.

No such thing as truly "free", eh? :D

Okay, before the heavy rains hit this afternoon....

- Got the flag pole base reset
- Got the small garden weeded and hoed up. Everything but the sunflowers came up okay.
- Got the lettuce weeded in the big garden.
- Started weeding the black beans
- In the big garden, the early variety of corn is up now. The melon/squash stuff has all sprouted.

Hoping I can nurse these gardens along a little further this week. One day at a time.

I picked up more carot seeds for a redo. I have more corn seed for the next round, just needed carrots. Me thinks the corn is a goner. I have only seen one little patch of silk sticking out :( This heat is getting the best of it this year :(

The lower half of the big garden was actually dried out before the rains hit. The upper half (with the beans/lettuce) was still too wet by the soil "ball test" (squeezing a handful of dirt into a ball), but I worked in it anyways.

Hope working it anyway doesn't hurt the soil structure. I have done that once before and may as well have poured concrete out there

Just pulled weeds from around the plants, that's all I did.

It weirds me out thinking about the opposite weather. It just now hit me that it's would be summer vacation at home for the school kids. :p It's cold and, until a couple days ago, very rainy here. Winter has us in it's claws, and won't begin letting us go until August. Poopers.

My strawberries all bit the dust. Evidently, they didn't like being tranplanted, or the cold is too much for them. I'll have to buy some more plants and make a special strawberry bed for them.

Surprisingly though, the german chamomile is doing really well. I planted it into a large pot, and it's since put on new growth. I look forward to masses of sweet smelling chamomile, because I want to make my own teas.

I also look forward to more rosehips. I want to dry some for teas, and make more jam, and bottle up some cordial for gifts and so on. I plan to really be on the ball next year, and harvest them regularly to get plenty for my needs. Hubby loves the cordial I make.
