I don't want to switch to another one, as the rest are more expensive and I just don't wanna spend the money
No matter how expensive the pills are, they are cheaper than a baby :D

That said, I stopped taking the pill in my early 20's, used other types of birth control (like condoms, which actually work out to be more expensive... depending on how often you need one), and now 12 years later we're planning a family.

Being on the pill changed my periods completely... now it rarely lasts more than 1-2 days, but my PMS is HORRIBLE (just ask my boyfriend... lol). It's still way different than before I started the pill.

I was on the pill and then the patch for the first few years I was married, it was awful. I felt terrible most of the time, I gained a lot of weight, and had really, really bad PMS.

Now I have an IUD. Like Mackay said, they do hurt like he!! at first, and for about the first year, but after that I don't notice it. I did stop getting periods, and my PMS symptoms have gotten better. I used to have debilitating cramps and migraines, now that's rare. I'm coming up on the 5 year mark and will get it replaced. After that I think I'll get my tubes tied.

One thing with the IUD, is that the threads can 'poke' your partner. And some insurance companies don't cover it since it's past a 30 day supply. But even at $500 (which is what I paid) it's still a lot cheaper than a baby!

Iceblink, how hard did you have to bully your docs to get the IUD?
I really wanted one, but after seeing three doctors and getting nothing but condescending snark about safety, I gave up.
The snark was because I'm young and not married, so clearly I can't make decisions for myself. Obnoxious patriarchal southerners.

Get the coil, I mentioned it yesterday on another thread.

Get the coil.

Thank me later......
You're so funny...

from what I read about the coil, it prevents any future pregnancy, it causes scar tissue in the tubes which causes them to seal closed.

Huh? Wraps around the bottom of the uterus and keeps the opening closed using its spiral shape. You have been misinformed as to its use, I have two SIL who became preggers when they chose to have a family, 5 kids now between them. As far as the scar issue or sealing of the opening, I can't disagree with you as I am not educated in those statements.

But by all means folks should discuss this option with their doctor as I can't soundly offer any medical advice.

Ah, then my google search was wrong. When I looked up the coil yesterday, it said its a device thats inserted into the tubes on each side, and it forms scar tissue which in effect is similar to having tubes tied.

Wildsky, that's what I was thinking too, I'm not familiar with the kind of coil that MP is talking about.
Maybe it's an English thing?

This is what my wife decided to use, and to be honest it has been effective and no mood swings or other major issues. Widely use in Europe and I have dated several woman that have used this as their form of b/c and I really like it too. :p :)
OH ok, got it - its an IUD, I thought you said on the other thread it prevented a period, I got confused... (thats getting easier and easier to accomplish these days)
