I can't see that, there are few things in our daily diets that would give us vitamin D...and I am not a fish eater. Some people are definitely more sensitive to things than others though

I know A, C, B vitamins in foods...but D.....other than milk fortified with D

There are few things that naturally have vitamin d. And vitamin D that is added to milk products is not enough for adults. I read in one medical article that an adult would have to drink about 17 glasses of milk each day to get the basic recommended amount.
Excess vitamin D (defined in one article as 50 times the RDA which is still 400IU I believe) taken over several months can cause hypercalcemia, which can cause high blood pressure, kidney damage and stones, even heart failure.
The older a person is the less vitamin D is made through sunlight exposure.
So enough is good but, unless supervised by a doctor, the amount Tallman uses would seem to be dangerous eventually. At least it would scare me who takes 4000 IU daily.

Your fear is unfounded. I take 5,000 iu a day and 50,000 two times a month, I have my blood levels checked.

Studies indicate that up to 200ng/mg no adverse affects are seen. I keep my level around 70 to 90 because I have a history of cancer.
50 is what is generally recommended but I think it is too low yet. Anyway they raised it to 50 after the new research. It use to be 30. So far they have found no ill effects from "too much D3"

Gotta keep up with the new information out there.

I take 6000 a day (for the last few months) and I have been noticably better.

From everything I have read the current guidelines are very out dated and the recommended max daily intake is 10,000IU for an adult. Side effect starting at 50,000IU daily for several months.

50x400=20,000 per day is the definition I read of a level producing toxicity. The level Tallman mentioned was 30,000 per day. Still sounds like too much to be unsupervised.
I think my info came from the Mayo clinic site which would seem pretty good.

Get the blood test if there is any doubt. I have no fear of taking doses 10,000 IU and under. In summer, I don't take supplements and just lay out.

Still most Americans test deficient in the summer, especially if over 30. Best to get your levels checked.

I brought up the Vitamin D thing up when I went to the arthritis doctor. I have been taking about 2,000 IU a day. They encouraged me to continue taking that much or possibly even upping it slightly. I asked them how much is too much and they said it did depend on the person. They prescribe Vitamin D to arthritis patients and the amounts START at 50,000 IU a day! She said people that get prescribed Vitamin D in their office are usually deficient and even at the 50,000 IU a day levels it takes them a while to catch up!

Still, taking high doses of any vitamin is best to be under a doctors supervision, I would think.
