I've always needed a minimum of 10 hours too. 11 is great. Having kids who don't need as much sleep as I do put me in zombie mode for the last 10 years. I'm just starting to come out of it.

And it will get better every year!
I'm so glad I had my kids at a young age, even though I zombied my way through my mid 20's/early 30's. I never got the memo that some kids never sleep and they still have energy that don't quit  My son has gotten up by 6 am every single day of his life. There was a time when he was 3 or 4 years old, that he got up at 4 am daily, didn't nap, and we would pray for him to just go to bed early so we could have a break. I think I cried every day for about a year.

How's your quality of sleep? That makes a huge difference for me too. And hormone fluctuations really play on my energy levels and sleep ability. I'm praying for early menopause :p

don't be praying for menapause ever LOL

it kills ur sleep big time

night sweats and those restless legs hit and just make ya go insane lol

but those seem to be lessening now which I love cause I am taking Black Colash (spell) and it seems to have worked pretty good for me

yea my kid is a sleeper 14 hrs straight it is me that can't sleep well lol

I got that restless brain thing happening also.....I lie down dead tired and think about the 50 million things I did and the 100 million things I have to do tomorrow LOL I truly need to get a handle on that one cause it just works me up I seem to never shut down LOL

I am green with envy!

We rarely get "private time" now because we get tired before our kids do. And DH goes to work super early when I'm still getting my beauty sleep on :/

Re: menopause, I am hoping that I have enough herbal knowledge to get me through it. I've always struggled with imbalance so I'm ready to be done. After my first child was born, I was having flashes and all the craziness that goes with it. I got it straightened out, no thanks to any doctors who just tried to put me on antidepressants.

Black cohosh is good! Red Raspberry leaves might help too. They are a powerful regulator.

Non-stop thinking gets me every now and then too :(

I like the Emergen-C to help ward off oncoming illness.

Vit C and caffeine don't seem to do much for me for energy. I drink tea but if I ever get anything with high dose caffeine it just makes me jittery. I hate those energy drinks.

I tried about 20 different kinds of high quality food state and food derived multivitamins. I think they are probably all good products but I noticed an energy burst with only one. Unfortunately it's hard to find. It's called Life's Fortune. Even at half dose I get a nice long-lasting boost. I read the ingredient list to see what might be the "energy factor" and my guess is spirulina and chlorella. Those are easier to find but chlorella (a good one) is expen$ive!

I put a drop or two of pure lavender oil on my pillow at night to help me stay asleep. When I have the running-thoughts brain thing, I take Skullcap. It is a nerve tonic and will help me sleep at night. Not a sedative -- if you take it in the daytime (which I have done when I get nervous eyelid twitching) it won't put you to sleep.

Valerian has a sedative effect for me. I've taken it for hard sleep and pain relief after an injury but I rarely use it. I think it could be habit forming for some people and it can give you weird dreams. So I ONLY use it when I've had an injury that is tightened up and will heal better if relaxed. I discovered it because I'd had a sore shoulder for 3 months that nothing helped. I took it for pain and to help me sleep and the next day the pain was gone. I'm not saying it would work that way for any soreness but I think mine was only a lingering tightness.

Magnesium helps some people relax and sleep well. It helps me marginally. I think it has more to do with magnesium/calcium balance in the body, which might explain why some swear by it and others see no result at all.

Whatever is in Life's Fortune, lavender oil, and skullcap are my most effective ones though. :)

yea super lucky here cause I only have one kid
and she was a sleeper from day one
but when older I explained that the police want all kids in bed at 7:30 and she could read or watch her portable DVD til 8 and then lights out

I didn't say the cops were mean or anything, I just said it was the law hahaha heck she don't know lol I got her fooled "for now" but it made a wonderful pattern of her falling asleep at a normal time

LOL by gosh it works so well for me that at about 7-7:30 she asks to go read or listen to the radio or whatever til lights out

I try it all and get away with what I can lol

Is that just in a health food store to purchase?

You're welcome.

If it were me I would check a health food store. Unfortunately not even all the ones there are always good. Which reminds me! Solaray makes a capsule that I use that is great. I tried Nature's Answer tincture (normally their tinctures are good) but it did nothing for me. I got the same report on that tincture from about 3 others too.

You can also get it in a tea for probably about 1/2 the price or less. I never tried the tea though and if you need it regularly or in larger amounts the tea is probably going to cost more.

If I already know a product I will often order from iHerb.com as they are the cheapest I have found, since I can't get wholesale anymore.

I hate to be ignorant on this end of it but I might as well admit it and say you might be able to grow it yourself if you find it works for you. I want to try growing medicinal herbs but with several kinds of free range poultry I'm not sure it's a good idea.

My boss used to soak in a warm tub of lavender oil instead of putting it on her pillow. If short-term use would work for you? I understand the problem tho. It took getting used to for me to have something so strong right there and my sinuses are not sensitive that way (except to cleaning chemicals -- blah!!!)

I hope you find what works for you. There are many things and sleep was a challenging situation to sort out since there seem to be many reasons for lack of it.

Energy-boosting is easier to figure out. Usually if it's going to work for you, it does so quickly too. :)

good luck! :)
