I used to have a teacher that always said "If you talk, type, or write like a caveman, I'm going to treat you like one." Funny how we've sort of resorted back to a mess of syllables.

I admit, I use BRB and LOL.

Probably because that is how people talk in real life.
Really? Where? No one I know does. Is that a regional thing? I have only ever lived on the west coast.
I think it is a Southern thing. My DH and kids talk like that. The South is notorious for being lazy with our speech and leaving out syllables or words.

Well I guess my DH is right ... I really am a Luddite, and a founding member of the Flat Earth Society. The world, and language will shift whether I care or not, so it is easier if I don't pay much attention I suppose. I see myself becoming a confused old woman in the not so distant future, but I'll try not to let it bother me

Oh ORchick, I am that confused old woman.......plus I'm over here in the UK, where our version of English is very different anyway. Sometimes I sit for a long time trying to work out what is meant by these jumbles of letters etc & finally have to Google them......!! But then I remind myself that language is always changing and people have always complained about it......so I just laugh. After all I am not going to be around much longer..... !! ;)

I notice the lack of "to be" sometimes, but what really gets me in this rural area is people say "down to" a lot. I would say, "They have Slurpees at 7-11". My husband would say, "They have Slurpees down to the 7-11." I don't know why they add that in, but everyone from around here (the Eastern Shore of MD) says that. I'm from Southern MD on the western side of the state, and nobody says that.
