I try to type (and speak) using decent grammar and correct English but that isn't always the case. However, I can't say that I've noticed the lack of "to be" on this forum.. I can't say the same for others my age though.

Edit... typo.

I don't bother with searching out or "those things" don't hit me much. I have too much on my plate. Now I do have tons of other pet peeves tho that annoy me LOL
This doesn't annoy me, and I don't go searching. Its just that I have noticed it, and was puzzled. It just seems odd. Back to the original example: the house needs painted - if "to be" makes it too much to type why not just type "painting"? One more letter, but it is correct.
From the sound of your responses it would seem that I am the only person noticing this "trend"

Probably because that is how people talk in real life.
Really? Where? No one I know does. Is that a regional thing? I have only ever lived on the west coast.
ok i totally laughed at this one. yeah baby its your west coast style.

and yes, mostly regional so you would not have heard it before.

i had to shrug off a LOT of my west coast to fit in out here. at first i was annoyed..... now I'M the one who is annoyed when i go back. so its all what you are used to.

is the lack of "to be" grammatically correct? probably not. is it the way "folks" talk? yep. and at least they dont type it in text-speak as in "2 B"... that would send me over the edge!

;-)

My DH came from Maryland and it still bothers him. It does seem to be an Ohio thing as I grew up doing that and it was considered fine. I'm guessing it is other places too.
