Im looking for a geographic area that I can build a TOTALLY self sufficient log home. Seriously self sufficient. My own water that cannot be altered, enough annual sun to be solar self sufficient. A long growing season. Few government (County, city, state or feds) regulations, and finally a clearly defensible space.

Thanks for the input.

Glad I found this site!

We can't offer the long growing season, but we have very few restrictions for all the rest, including unlimited log supply.

A ridge top or hill top location in northern Arkansas would be a possibility. There are some off the grid homes already, water is readily available for a drilled well, a decent growing season, and rural property is lightly (if at all) regulated. Add to that a very low property tax rate ($60 +/- a year on a 1300 sq ft. home and 15 acres), and you have a nice place to live.

Oh, and welcome to the group!

We are in the mountains with plenty of logs, long growing season, lots of deer and game. Plus lots of natural ponds with fish. And almost everyone is Self Sufficient......

you really can do it anywhere

dig a well, of course don't be next to a chemical processing plant etc lol

solar....well you have to have X amt of sun and battery backup etc.
most states can handle this requirement

land..that is everywhere to buy

size of log cabin etc is your choice and your financial situation

compost toilets etc

hunting is around as long as you aren't in a neighborhood etc.

be sure you aren't in city limits etc and you can have the animals required for food etc.

sure you can do it anywhere you truly wish I think

next step for me is "where would I love to live?" pick the area you would love........personally for me I hate the mountains, I am beach person lol

Don't assume that just because an area is zoned farming that you can have farm animals, or raise vegetables. Some areas have some really strange zoning laws. Someone I know has 5 acres, it's zoned farming, but the only reason he's allowed to have his animals is because he's always had them. They had a meeting-no one knew about it-and changed laws as to what is and isn't allowed.

Some really great ideas. Thanks for all the support. Let me redefine my wish list.

I am a fan of Mike Renyolds of Earthships.

Logs, Tires, Straw bales I dont care as long as it is warm and sound.

I really do not want to be around anyone unless I want to be.

I would like a well that is pure and be closr to some body of water. Lake, Ocean

(Todo Santos would be nice) and a clear view of the land. Don't want anyone

sneaking up on me! This is for the furture and who know what that will hold, you

know?

I started thinking about this in the early 70's. I have every issue of the original MEN

magazine. I am a woodworker by choice and have a good feel for building things.

Thanks again and keep it coming.

Take care,

LarryC
