OUCH! Make sure you don't loose your finger now!

I need to make pesto too! But I don't have that much basil growing, only a couple plants.. But better than nothing.

Have fun with your cake!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.... they definitely leave an empty spot!

If the cut on your finger gapes open when it is not wrapped, you needed stitches. At this point they probably woudn't suture it, but you might need some antibiotics or a tetanus shot?

I want to try to grow some herbs and the like, but I've never gotten around to looking up what and when I could do it here.

well, I'm ashamed to say I still haven't mustered up the nerve to look at it - but it isn't hurting and it isn't leaking. so it must be good!

the chocolate cake is gone.

Here's the recipe:
DONT DO IT CHOCOLATE CAKE
don't melt the chocolate, dont soften the butter. don't sift the flour. don't use more than one bowl. don't spend more than 10 minutes putting this cake together:

grease an 8 or 9 inch pan, muffin tins, two cake pans for a layer cake, or a 9x13 pan. preheat oven 350 degrees

take:
3/4 c cocoa powder
2 c sugar (I use a little less)
1 3/4 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder

mix that in a bowl.
Put the teakettle on, you are going to need 1 cup boiling water in a moment.

add to the bowl:
1 cup milk or water or soymilk or ricemilk or goatmilk or.....
1/2 c veg oil or 1/4 c oil and 1/4 c unsweetened applesauce
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract

mix on med speed for less than 2 minutes.
stir in one cup boiling water by hand with a spatuala

pour into the pan(s), put in oven

bake 30-35 mn for rounds, 35-40 mn for rectangular pan or 15-20 mn for cupcakes

let cool completely before icing you can always cheat and sprinkle confectionary sugar on it if you don't want to frost it, but with the buttercream frosting, people think they died and went to heaven.

frost with buttercream frosting:

2 sticks butter,
1 lb or 3 and 3/4 cup confectioners sugar,
1/2 c heavy cream, light cream, half and half, sour cream or milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 tsp salt if you used unsalted butter

first cream the butter , add sugar, keep beating, add rest, whip to lighten about 5-10 mns on med speed or ten minutes with a whisk and lots of energy.

you can add for flavoring:
2/3 cup cocoa
or 1 or 2 tbsp bourbon
or raspberry or maple sryrup,
or some coffee....

the frosting makes plenty of frosting for a layer cake, more than enough for cupcakes (extra frosting is good on cookies! or by the spoon)
