I found the nut cracker recipe. Although, now that I think about it, jam isn't a good thing for diabetes, either. Sorry! I can only hold one thought in my head at a time about food intolerances, apparently!
Lol

You know, you can also use jams as a way to flavor your roasts and such. I did this with the chicken I made the other day. Just threw the pieces into a glass baking dish, poured the slightly runny pear jam over everything (and since it was a little runny didn't need to add water like I normally do) and just baked at 350 for an hour. Came out soo good :D

I may be on the verge of murder... We are under the hurricane threat. It will give us high wind gusts and much much rain. Which is liable to bring down trees since the ground is pretty saturated already. We have lots of trees that might come down on the house, the chicken coop and the barn. Might. May, whatever. *Someone* around here is obsessing about getting hit by trees! What can we do about it now? I pointed out that if she was going to be worried about trees falling, the time to address that was 4 months ago, not one day before a hurricane. That wasn't appreciated.

I have been putting away and carrying and feeding and cleaning and getting extra water lugged and trying to pick up anything that could blow. The ONLY thing I asked to be done was to take the new tractor with the hay grabber and put a round bale inside the back door of the barn. Not through the front door since I have that end of the aisle stacked with shavings for the old mare who has to stay in a stall. I do not feel like spending time re-arranging the aisle so the tractor can go in the front door. Aside from that, the roll bar of the tractor is too high to allow it to go into the barn with out un-stepping it which we have never had to do yet. This request was made at 10:30 this morning. That wasn't an acceptable way to get the hay bale into the barn, apparently, because the last 2 1/2 hours have been spent figuring out how to unstep the roll bar so the tractor can go all the way into the barn. Which is not necessary, and it won't fit without moving bags of shavings anyway. Now we are deciding the york rake has to come off, too, since it is wider than the tractor. We haven't taken that off yet, either. I foresee absolutely nothing being accomplished today that I don't manage to do myself....

Remember, if you murder, the job won't get done. And yes, I fully understand how this can be upsetting (except it usually takes three days for something to get done  ) :hugs

Well, I posted that at 1pm- when I finally came in to eat something besides coffee (yes, coffee is a food group :D ). The food is settled into my stomach, my blood sugar is higher, and the hay bale finally made it into the barn. I didn't ask how.

And, our neighbor came over - the nice horse neighbor straight across from us who had their house shot up by the not-nice neighbors- to ask if we had an extra stall for tonight and tomorrow for her stallion. She has tent sort of run-ins for him that I think she is going to dismantle for the duration so they don't blow away or rip apart. I actually do have an extra stall since my Trakehner mare died. :( So, he could have an interior stall. Mine are going to stay in the side of the barn with the run-outs, and I don't think I will close them in anyway and let them decide where they want to be. He is a mannerly Cheval Canadien stallion, and won't really be any trouble with my mare herd. I hope.

LOL- don't think I haven't thought about it! He really is pretty nice- well put together, a good head on his shoulders, nice bone, compact. Would be a pretty nice cross with my TB mare I was trying to get rid of this past spring. I think he's too heavy (and smallish) to put with my Oldenburg mare since she is already pretty compact for a warmblood.

We are finally as done as we are going to get, I think. The gas grill is being moved as I write this.

Well, we weathered the storm fine. We have one apple tree that is blown over from the roots that I went out this morning to try to stake back upright. I thought I was being buzzed by my bees since the tree is right next to the hive. Not. I was being buzzed by yellow jackets!! Damn. There must be a ground nest under that tree that helped undermine it. I got stung twice- and I don't know why I never remember about plantain on stings until way after the fact :idunno. But, anyway, I have a question for bee people- how do I get rid of that nest next to my beehive without using anything that will kill the bees? I do want to get rid of it- wasps steal from bees, don't they? I did actually see a yellow jacket on the hive the other day and I squashed it since I had my gloves and everything on for checking the hive. How worried should I be for my bees? Should I think about re-locating the hive? How far do I have to move it to get them to not fly back to the old site looking for the hive?

Ideally I would want to kill the wasps without killing the bees, though, so I can get the apple tree back upright!
