I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs

I did not realize gun fire could spook a horse like that.

:(
Yeah, gunfire, fireworks- they are the bane of most horse owners. Unless the horses are trained to gunfire (which really only police horses are now) it sends them running. And, Paree was always one of my "sensitive" ones. Some of the others aren't so worried.

:hugs So sorry.....when I moved my mare home to the suburbs, I spent many nights outside walking her to calm her down, especially around July with all the fireworks, which seemed to start in June and go on through July for some reason. I had to have the noisy neighbor boy feed her sugar and yell and drive their dirt bikes by her. He's all grown up and still noisy, but he's a Ranger now.

Anyways, yes, horses do NOT like any sudden movement or noise. Their instinct is to run, and if frightened enough, will try to run right through a stone wall....they get to a point where they lose their sense of self-preservation and that is when these tragedies happen. How horrible for you...and Paree. Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures of her and her foal.

Just had to say- WOO HOO! I have brood! The new queen is working well, the girls still love her and I have 2 frames of brood :weee

They aren't foraging much- the stored honey is decreasing and I think I will start feeding them again, even though the goldenrod is in full swing, as is jewelweed and various cute little flowers in our wildflower patch. But, there are new bees coming up! YEAH- I am so excited. :celebrate

Oh, and in other news, my SO is updating her duty weapon to the Glock so she can stop using the department's weapon. So I am going to take over her 9mm that she has here at home. :D She says the sights suck, but I can get those worked on. Watch out with the shooting, neighbors, because I am just liable to shoot back soon. :tongue

Thanks. I am finding that even 2 weeks later, losing Paree has changed my attitude towards our house here. I am ready to move. I don't like the feeling that if anything happens we are living next door to the zombies. I wouldn't mind moving closer to my in-laws and having an apt for them in our house. It would be closer to Boston and the coast if TSHTF which I don't like, but it would be a good move. Vermont is too redneck for me, I think.

I am feeling so domesticated to day, I can't stand myself! Thursdays are my day off -by myself- to do whatever I want to do. I usually go riding with friends, but I think I am going to cancel today since I have so much on my to-do list. So, what am I doing on the computer :caf This is me- need the coffee!

pay bills
go to the feed store
food shop
put out another round bale for the horses
make more yogurt
beef jerky is in the dehydrator
the weather has cooled enough to make soap again!
decant the kombucha and start another batch

And, last but not least, I am going to cheat and buy blueberries from the farm down the street to make my blueberry jam because I just plain don't have time to pick them, too. We are just about at the tail end of blueberries and I really want my jam! I am trying the sure-jel low sugar one to try to cut out the sugar. Anyone used this? I read the ingredients, and it seems like there are no chemicals in it- does it just have more pectin to make it set? What makes it low sugar as opposed to the regular sure jel? I have always used the regular, but the amount of sugar just seemed astronomical!
