Interesting, DianeB.

In modern days we just get fat from drinking ale. I had no idea it was once a survival strategy.
Yes, you probably could get fat from it back then. As you know, traveling on a Viking ship and raiding monastaries really burns calories.

(Sourdough is also a fermented food that is good for you.)

I wonder if they stopped putting Vit C in sugary drinks if we would have a sudden outbreak of scurvy in the US? I here rickets is making a comeback. Not enough outdoors time and forgoing milk for soda.

You know . . . this is weird, but I heard this last night . . . wonderbread now is packed with vitamins, including vitamin C.

Not many children get good old fashioned vit c. I wonder how usable the added Vit c is anyway? Especially paired with so much sugar?

I'm going to post some great info on raw milk. (I just picked up my weekly supply of raw milk from the dairy today.) The information is very interesting. :) I'll put it on the raw milk thread.

Ohhhh . . . here is another interesting thing . . . my husband mixed some soluble vitamin C in with his gatorade (orange in color). The next day the gatorade had turned completely clear! I told him it was probably the vitamin C doing it's job on the colorants.
