I have a friend with a schizophrenic son. She had a lot of the same things happen. Finally got the son on a good med regime, but it took years.

:hugs

As for the neighbor...I would have taken the dog to an OUT OF TOWN pound.

Your neighbor was THERE when his dog killed your chicken? And the neighbor got mad that YOU got mad??? Oh lordy, I think I would have pulled the chicken out of the trash can and shoved it down that man's throat. Clean him out like a feather duster colonoscopy.

I'm sorry for your troubles and your loss of chickens. :hugs

:hugs From me to you.

You always get through these tough times and you will get through this too.

My DH and I have discussed our neighbors dogs numerous times. The big dog disappeared for a while after I told them I was going to kill it and then took a couple of shots in its direction when it was on my property. Now its back. I guess they sent it on vacation. LOL It will disappear again only this time it will be permanant.

What I really think is it should be legal to shoot the dumb neighbors and find the dogs a good loving home.

Court would be something like: Yes Your Honor, they allowed their dogs to run loose and in harms way. After months of trying to tell them that we live close to a busy highway, along with their dogs trying to tear into my chicken and rabbits pens I felt I had no choice but shoot the neighbors and find the dogs a good home for the dogs own protection.
As the gavel slaps down the judge says - justifiable homicide - case dismissed.

I'm so sorry, Morel. :hugs

I was thinking about you just a couple of days ago and wondering why you hadn't posted in a while.

Sometimes things have a way of hitting you in the face all at one time. I can't imagine how you are feeling over your son. I know you have a strong faith. Let it go and turn it over to God. He will lift your burndens.

As for the dog, I agree with Skr8pn & PP.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. Last night I went for a ride in my car and listened to the same song over and over until I believed it...it goes kind of like this:

I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my shame
I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord...

I played it and sang it and yelled it until I believed it and when I got home my husband told me that my son had called to apologize. He has been on intervenous for three days and is being released from the hospital this morning. He says he is going into a drug rehab program. That has been said over and over through the years so I am not holding much hope of that happening, but God did answer my prayer last night...at least i know he is still alive and that he is sorry :>)
As for the neighbors....ohhhh, I wish I'd have had the nerve to put thier dog on the table!

LOL--roast the dog...good one Morel

You sure know how to de-stress and that is great!!! at least you can come to terms with problems in your life and get back a little of your own life in the process. I am so glad you can do that for yourself. Yes, it piles up big time on our shoulders, but at least you find the strength to come to terms with it and move forward! Great for you!!

Oh Morel, I am so sorry for all that you are going thru.

I am glad that you got word that your son is ok. Sometimes as parents we gotta know when to let them own their own lives, sounds like you are there. Hang tough. You are a good woman and have done what you can and what you feel is right, don't let your child's choices in life be your burden.

As for your neighbors....they sound rotten.

Sorry Morel about your sons troubles, I have no advice to offer here.

Now, about that dog....

Sheeeessshhhhh..... Haven't you folks ever heard of tact????? :gig

Take a 20 oz empty pop bottle, place it over the end of your .22 long rifle, take aim, drop the dog. I'd wait till night and bait it in, make sure to be standing in your doorway. Slam the door after you shoot the dog, starting yelling back at the house like you and your DH are having a fight. This way when they look out they will think the little bang sound they heard was the door slamming. Meanwhile, give it a few minutes. Recover the dog in a black trash bag, load it in your car, drive off listening to that song, go on an interstate, find a guardrail, drop off the dog recover your plastic bag. Go home and make up with your DH.

Of course if it were me, I'd slit the dogs..... Wheres free when you need a good dog meat recipe? I wonder, can you make dog food from dog meat? What????? Its like boiling eggs to feed the chickens isn't it? :gig

I wouldn't have gotten rid of my chickens because of some elses dog. I would have to get rid of their dog, only never to admit I had seen the dog that day at all. I'd do a few follow ups over time ask if they ever found their dog.
