Modern pioneer,

What is the 20 oz pop bottle for? Just curious.

Moral,

When I was young my Mom (a big anti gun gal) shot anything that moved toward her chickens with a bb gun. Didn't kill a thing, but they ran off. I'll bet if she had a stronger gun she wouldn't have hesitated to use it. (I believe she shot our dogs too if needed! :gig )

I'm glad you got some relief last night. :hugs

Muffles the sound down so it sounds like a car door/door being slammed instead of a .22 being shot.

Morel, I wish you hadn't gotten rid of your birds...you had such a lovely set up.

You know, I had to shoot a neighbor's dog before. I didn't want to and gave them chance after chance but I had finally had enough. It was a running shot and with a .22 and I felt such rage at the time that I wouldn't have really cared if it had been the neighbor or the dog that I shot.

When I got home the police were waiting for me. They couldn't prove anything at all and I never heard about it again. But, you know what? The neighbors walked a little softer, they got rid of half their dogs and kept the other half tied securely and finally they moved away. Before the incident, their dogs terrorized the whole neighborhood and any passing motorist. Other neighbors thanked me for doing what they didn't have the guts to do.

I didn't want to shoot a dog, it wasn't really his fault and he was doing what dogs do. But he was doing to me and mine. Too many times.

I agree with the other posts....sometimes you just gotta shoot a dog so you can live quietly and in peace...because you just can't shoot the neighbors like you should be able to . ;)

Sorry about your boy, Morel, but I'm glad he called back and apologized. You never know...this might be the time it really happens for him....and for you too. Prayers to that affect are being lifted heavenward right now. :hugs

My oldest son called me on Friday afternoon...bawling, he's in the hospital 2000 miles away and has tried yet another suicide attemp...he called to cry and tell me. . . . All I knew how to say was "I honestly don't know what to do..." so he hung up

...so we were having dinner and I hear my hens going crazy so i go out there to find out that thier dog got another one of my birds. I brought the dead bird right into the kitchen while they were having dinner and plunked it in the garbage

You were trying too hard to be nice!
You could have put the chicken in a clean bag and asked if they wanted their doggie bag now or later. Maybe their kids understand now- why you were upset at their dog.
Or excused yourself for a minute, called animal control and had the problem picked up-while the evidence is still fresh. They may bail him out of "doggie jail" but it would be on record as a problem animal and they would be warned by the officials to control him.

About your Son- That call was emotional abuse. I hope he turns his life around and ends up alright. Everybody deserves to have a happy life but until he makes steps in that direction- don't get sucked in. Have a happy life and when he is ready - he will have a good example of how it's done. :hugs
