The economy is really tough right now. Sorry about the job, but way to go on the attitude! :thumbsup

You are right everything happens for a reason and for the Christian particularly "ALL things work together for good"! Romans 8:28

I was in that pain last winter with my old hens. Ugg. I think I bought eggs for around three months! It is amazing how spoiled we get. Even the best free range "store eggs" have no flavor by comparison.

I usually keep my hens for two or sometimes close to three years, so famine times are normal. It sure makes me appreciate my new little hens and my fridge that is full of eggs this winter!

Oh luckily I have a lady down the road that raises chickens too, so I still get REAL eggs :love I just hate buying them when I got all these chickens, but I do buy from her ocassionally when it is necessary. $2 a dozen isn't so bad. She has HUGE eggs too, but sometimes they are thin shells, and sometimes have really big blood and meat spots. Still worth it to get a real egg IMO though, even when I have to toss a few. She is mentally handicapped, and we are working on her flock health and management. She is learning SO much :) She had no idea what she was doing before, bless her heart. She was trying though. She had no idea about worming or illness or anything until I found out she had chickens and have been helping her. I hatched babies for her and now she has one of my bators hatching some herself. She LOVES it! It's a slow process, but she is coming right along on them.

Ive only had chickens for a year and a half and I have never been without eggs. Maybe they were slowed down but never completely out.
