Nah, can't cook on this one, but I am looking for one I can cook on to replace this one next year. Hoping I can sell my gas log fireplace and mantle to pay for a better stove next year, but this will do for now, and save me a bunch of money :)

Does it have a flat top? If so, you can still cook on it, just not like you could w/the one you had on lay away.

We always cooked on our flattop stove as a child....I miss that stove, made the whole house smell like winter :)

We always kept a big pot of water on it too to up the humidity.

It's also really fun to drop little balls of snow on it and watch it sizzle across the top....but don't try to cook anything on top of it in tupperware :gig ...I almost burnt my house down when I was like 9, don't know where my mother was when I was "cooking" aka boiling water, leaves, twigs, berries and anything else I could find to make "soup" for my baby dolls in a big tupperware bowl. Man did that stink up the house!

I miss having a wood stove some kinda bad.....

I can't cook on this one, it is made from a barrel kit, and we have an extra barrel that we can use as a double barrel stove, or use when this barrel wears out. I did find out I can get a cast iron "hot plate" that bolts onto the top though, so if I get it, I can cook on it :)

We spent half the day taking out our gas log fireplace and mantle...we're gonna sell it if we can.

Sounds like it's good timing on them starting to lay!
Yeah, laying hens! What a concept.... could you have them talk to mine???
 I tried to time them to start laying by the time the older birds quit for the winter since the old girls would be coming into their first hard molt. It worked. :) I am well pleased. I do give them added lighting in the afternoons or they likely wouldn't be laying.

It IS good that they started! I plan on selling some hatching eggs soon ;) I need to build back up my fridge stock. We have been very low on our egg reserves as of late. I need at least 4 dozen in there, and we eat them every morning sooo, it's slow going for now :D Next month I hope to have some for sale again.
