I'm not even sure how many 1st cousins I have...I can name them all thoughBarredBuff said:I have one set of first cousins (the girl is getting married in July and the boy is in basic trianing for the air force) and a whole slew of second cousins all of which are adults.
I'm the only one who had to buy my own car, only one who DID NOT get to do extracurriculars, and I had to share a bedroom with my sister until I was SIXTEEN! I also was responsible for cooking lunch for those two lunkheads when school was out....no sandwiches for those little darlings ALTHOUGH, NOW I am thankful...I wasn't THEN. It was so unfair!! My brother still lived with my parents up until 3 years ago, my sister can't live without a man I and mom raise her DD, my 6 y.o. niece, who is here now. I see now I actually got the better end of the deal, but I missed a good portion of my childhood in the process of playing mini mom. So I get to be a big kid with my kiddos now and I have more resources and bigger toys than my siblings did back then It's all goodDenim Deb said:That's a lot of cousins! I'm the youngest of 4. People always think the youngest gets all the benefits. Didn't happen in my family. When my mom decided my oldest brother was too old for something, so were the rest of us, didn't matter that I was 5 years younger. Everyone else got to drive my parents' cars, not I. I had to get my own. And, while the others got to put their cars on my parents' insurance, I had to get my own. I got the car because I had a job, and that was the only way I could get to it. Plus, if it rained, my mom wouldn't drive me to school. (It was a mile one way) There were times I'd be soaking wet by the time I got to school. But, in a way, it was good. I learned to depend on myself at a young age.
As for childhood memories, one of my favorite memories is from a Thanksgiving Day. I was, if I remember correctly in the 4th grade. We were going to my grandparents house in PA. I had just read a story about a little girl who visited her grandparents for Thanksgiving, and they had snow. So, I prayed for snow for Thanksgiving. Well, we got the snow-so much that we woke up to no power in a house that was all electric except for the wood stove in the basement! We went to the neighbor's for the day. I could not tell you what we ate, or what all we did, I just remember the warmth and love that was there. And that's why I remember it.
Yeah, me and John were the oldest of my mom's side grands. Then my cousin Jason is a few months younger than me...we got spankings....a LOTFarmerJamie said:It wasn't any easier as the oldest on both sides of the family. We were the one the parents and grandparents "practiced" on.
The late coming little buggers were the most spoiled brats and by the time they got old enough to do the fun stuff, I was on my to college.......
