Jamie, how many meaties do you do in a year?!?
Around 70-100, depending on if we do 2 batches or 3.

I want to be doing that many next year. This year i'll probably only hit around 50, but they are soooo worth it! We like the meat. I have to save room for the pig in the freezer though, so staying smallish this year until I figure out how it's gonna work out.

My meaties haven't disappeared yet from last Fall. We are just beef and pork people. :hu It looks like I am going to have quite a bit of roosters to fatten and slaughter this fall. Any suggestions on bulking those dudes up?

We did 18, and that turned into about 20 bags of chicken. We have 6 left, I believe. I still would like to do some this fall to freeze, as my roosters are destined for the jar.

And I am working a deal to trade the gizzards, hears, and livers for something the family WILL eat!

We have another half beef coming in November, and by September to October whatever is left I am canning up to put in the pantry. I have a recipe for sloppy joe mix to try and taco meat. That is most of what we have left. We are also getting a whole pig or half of one. But I aim to put most of that in a jar, as pork supposedly freezer burns quickly. Then hopefully a dozen or so rabbits, and a few extra drakes.

Jamie I trade that stuff for help slaughtering...along with the feet combs and heads...it's a Chinese thing ;)

Buff, I need about 100 a year to keep up with our needs, and 200 to keep up with the neighbors needs.

You don't make broth? That doubles the meals you can make from those chickens. We love fried chicken liver :D

I have to use a regular inspected processor, can't find anyone locally. Cash and carry (or by check).

We eat chicken 2-3 times per week. We will consume one bird per meal (5 of us, plus my lunch for the next day). We don't eat much pork.
