Pat, I'm so glad you and your family were able to get a dog and that it's all going well! They definately add anther dimension to the family. I think Russel is a great name! Did the kids pick it?

It is amazing how much chicken poo and sheep poo one puppy can hoover up in just a couple minutes. We are working on teaching "leave it!"
Too funny!! Has he not discovered horse poo yet? Our trimmer was just out and the dogs hover around her for all the things left behind--the crud picked out of the hooves, the trimmings, and of course any poo that might get dropped Gross and disgusting!! :sick

We arrived at Russell by means of having sort of been leaning towards naming him Dug after the dog in the animated movie "Up" (worth renting, if you haven't seen it) but after re-watching the DVD just didn't feel it was quite right. The kid in the movie, whose personality is similar to this dog's, is named Russell. It was late Saturday and we were tired of addressing him as "hey you doggie". So, he is named Russell now LOL

Ducks4you, you seriously have to get another dog now and name it Baking Soda. I can just see you going around to shelters and rescues (or breeders, or whatever), and they ask you "what kind of a dog are you looking for?" and you reply "It has to be the kind of dog you can name Baking Soda".

Tired puppy is sleeping in his crate right now (door open, he just *wants* to be in there) after being outside for a few hrs with the kids, not so much playing with them as watching them and enjoying coming over to them for hugs when they called his name. Awwwww :)

(e.t.a. -- yes, he HAS discovered horse poo, a gourmet delight, but it is a lot easier to keep him out of THAT than out of the chicken poo [they free-range part of the day] or sheep poo [until Saturday the sheep were occupying a significant part of the yard, plus the big chainlink dog yard, and it seems to take sheep poo a *long* time to break down, maybe we just haven't ranched up enough of the right kinds of buggies yet but those sheep-berries can just sit there forEVER. Til a puppy comes along anyhow. The farrier will be here next week, but hopefully I will remember to sweep up BEFORE the puppy has a chance to discover the delights of hoof trimmings!)
