Monday we are pulling all $ out of mutual funds, stock market etc... We'll put it into CD since it is "IRA"s.
We've already lost a bunch of money, we don't want to lose the rest of it.

Even the potus has said the US needs to stop spending money, probably because China isn't buying anymore of our debt... NOW he knows we are in deep doodoo... I'm glad he's figured it out.

My guess is that the Dow will be below 3,000 by the end of October.
Unemployment is going to skyrocket, foreclosures will continue and get greater. Credit will be impossible to get.

Best bet for anyone at this point is to store commodities that they can barter... things that the government can't confiscate.

Mahonri.....I totally agree...things WILL get worse..and bartering will be the way of life. We are setting up our "bartering partners" now...before it gets to the "need to stage" Eggs for goats milk....fruits and veggies for meats. The best "bartering tools" in my opinion, will be canning supplies, and heritage gardening seeds. Good luck folks....its gonna be a long ride! Hang on tight!

No group of politicians have spent more money in less time that the reckless bunch that is in control of our government at the present. They pass spending bills without even reading them. Throw money that we don't have at everything. Their pattern is the FDR days. Well, folks whether you agree with the FDR prototype or not, you need to remember that when FDR and that group started us down this road, we were NOT already up to our eyeballs in debt. Herein lies the difference. Today our government is already in debt and they want to follow FDR's "borrow more money" pattern! :th

Really! All I ever hear is that the current president inherited all of this problem, but he is going to fix it. So far all I have seen is a flood of more of the same. Spend, spend, spend!

No kidding. VERY rocky.

That is why I started raising ducks. 5 females can keep my family in plenty of eggs. I only have 1 laying right now, one will be ready to lay in August and 3 more will by laying by September/October.

Next spring I will let one of the girls hatch out a clutch. I have a feeling egg laying critters will be in even bigger demand next year.

I'm definitely putting a padlock on my henhouse this summer. You're right, egg laying critters are going to be in bigger demand. Easy keepers they are, and most everyone can have a few in thier backyards. Most city people would never even think about the future the way we do though....I'm hoping we live far enough away from town that if it gets reall chaotic they won't be invading the country side looking for homes to rob. I don't believe most city folk will leave the city though, really, most of them are too afraid of critters if they have to leave hom on foot. (...trying to remember how I used to think when I was 'city folk :D )

It helps that you live in Canada, where the economy is orders of magnitude better than in the US. It's really not the same situation up here at *all*, even though yes there has been somewhat of a downturn.

Yes, you are right...it is not nearly as bad as the US yet...but that doesn't mean it isn't going to get any worse. My DH is in the mining/mill industry...and they have been taking a real kicking. When the mining gets bad up here, everything follows shortly after. And it is getting bad. You southerners don't feel it right away, but us Northerners sure do!
