I already pay $4 for bread!

I just found an add in our local paper for a CD that is paying over 4%
for either 6 months and then there is a year option. The hitch is you have to put in $25,000. but if you are cashing in everything maybe you can.

First American Guaranty FDIC insured (for what that might be worth?)

Are there any CDs that are an IRA at the same time?

So far we have been fortunate. We are still making money on our two 401Ks. My husband made over 4% last year and I broke even but am making a little this year, I did stop putting money in through.

heat? Gas well? I don't understand this one...could you explain it more?
Back in 1979 I leased the 160 where I live to an outfit for the drilling and production of oil. They hit a pocket of natural gas, but no oil. They didn't want natural gas, but they said that they would run some pipe in the hole for me, and try to make it a well for the heating of my home. I had to pay for the pipe and the work, but for $2,000 I ended up with a gas well. It only has about 20 lbs of pressure; however, that needs to be cut down to 3 oz. so it's plenty. So I heat with natural gas. I had some trouble with the pipe in the well last year, but we fixed it, and it's better than ever. Hope it keeps it up. :fl

There was an old well on this place that was drilled back in the 50's. I used this well; however, I had trouble with the pipe so I hooked up to the new well. I'm trying to get the old well fixed; however, it can't be repaired like the one I had done last year. I would like to get the old well fixed just for a back up.

Interesting indicator of the economy.

The local flea market is glutted with sellers. Usually there is a pretty set amount of sellers. Today, one of the regulars told me there were new people selling EVERYWHERE. Not a lot of "commercial" sellers either. Just people trying to dump extra stuff and make a few bucks.
I ran into another interesting indicator today.

I went to my regular tire dealer to get new tires for the garden tractor today. "Steve" asked me "how's the tree biz". "SLOW" was my response. When I posed the same question to him, his answer really caught me off guard. He has a lot of customers that haul with tri-axles and many of them have several trucks in their fleet. Instead of replacing tires on their trucks, they are shuffling tires around and keeping good ones on the trucks they are using and putting worn out ones one the trucks that are idle. His tire biz is off about 30% this year.
